@mariner4life Tokyo is like foodie Disneyland. Cold fresh soba (my personal favourite), yakitori from chicken pork eel or any other animal you can find, pork katsu cutlet or the more luxurious wagyu crumbed cutlet (how you deep fry a crumbed steak perfect medium rare I'll never know), udon, sushi, I defy you to have a shit time. High end or low end and everything in the middle, all the stuff we ate was top notch. They are crazy about coffee too so if you like you should have a crack. You bastards, now I'm really hungry!!!
Oh and they love to drink beer, so you will be awash in Asahi!!

I've had Irish oysters in Ireland and still prefer Bluff but then I flew to Bluff from Akl for the day just to eat oysters.
Agree about paua done well it's very good. Havent been able to try rotten cray and to me that is illogical.
Pretty much the only thing from the sea I can't abide is sea cucumber although I haven't had whale. I have had seal and it wasn't great.
I don't have an issue with eating different foods dog was OK insects are / can be good - Cobra blood shooters are just an excuse to brag.
Croc is OK but a bit bland - like snake. Roo ostrich all the darker meats are good. Balut is actually quite nice although very rich. Heard mixed reports on guinea pig sparrows a lot of effort from not much return

Yeah nah, you know he's always dying for an excuse to drink his own urine.

@dogmeat I watched a food programme and they were in Alaska and some local thing was that they put their fish carcasses into a cloth sack, at low tide go and bury it in the sand, leave it for a week then return for it...yummo 🤔

Rotten Greenland shark , I think they leave it in the ground for quite a while to get the ammonia out .
My old man has a Dutch mate we used to give rabbits we shot, he used to bury them for a couple of days . It’s supposed to break down the muscles and make them tender .
My old man went around to drop one off to the guy and he wasn’t home so he pegged it in their washing line as a joke for them to find later that day. They didn’t think it was very funny when they came home a week later to find its maggoty flyblown corpse stinking out their back yard. -

@jegga nah wasn't shark on the episode I watched but was probably longer...the foodie doing the show wasn't a fan though.
I wonder what it was then ? The shark dish is pretty famous and sounds disgusting.
-
@jegga not sure what fish (probably good sized Kahawai size) just knew it wasn't a shark - they had taken the main meat off the fish and then put the carcass in the sack.
The dude on the show loved food and gushed over pretty much everything except that and some local delicacy in Philippines

@bones a guy on a podcast I listen to kept a deer in a chiller for a year then ate it. They cut an inch off the outside and ate the meat inside , reckoned it had the texture of cheese .
Same guy cooked and ate a coyote too. You're not listening to the right podcasts, you want the ones like this one if we're talking extreme eating.

I've read a fair bit about that crazy bitch, the cops who were first on the scene needed psychiatric help afterwards.

I have a ready made map for you, and I'll update it before you come. Just pm me beforehand.
If you are going to Hokkaido, you should also get @MiketheSnow to give some suggestions. I think @Samurai-Jack is in the fucking sticks near Utsunomiya, so he's probably pretty fucking hopeless except for suggesting you try the gyoza, which is fucking Chinese anyway. No doubt he'll show up with some great recommendations now.
nice!! nah, just Tokyo this time. Direct flights out of Cairns for absolutely fuck all. Coming for a week. I am actually really looking forward to it
Only two matches in Sapporo. I've got tickets for the England v Tonga match.
Then fly down to Tokyo for Wales v Australia.
The Sapporo matches will be good and Sapporo will be lots of fun, but shortlived.

Taking ageing to the extreme. You do notice the difference in tenderness in an aged steak but you wouldn't want to see the meat before they prepare it for cooking.
-
I think I'll be at the Wakes/Oz game - wearing red and drinking with a bunch of Welsh birds. Beer at the ground?

She certainly disproves the theory that it's only the hot ones who are crazy
