Big loss but with Mighty Williams and Ofa T, the All Blacks have two very solid LHP. Bower, who cannot break into Otago's starting XV this year, will probably hold the bags.

Ofa to start, and Tamaiti to rampage once Boks fatties replaced. Bower is back up, but ought to fit in seamlessly if there's a mishap.

    And replaced by more fatties….

Ofa has been used as a finisher in the two England and two Argie tests. Part of that I think has been balancing the experience but also that the blueprint for the props for the future was largely set in the finals of last years RWC.

EdG and Lomax starting with Williams and Newell off the bench. Introduce others as they have done for new blood and keep experience (Ofa) as required. Williams had the family leave earlier so I think that has played a part in Ofa being used off the bench this year.

Agree with the thrust, but EDG’s absence throws things. The first 40 will have a heavy scrummaging focus, which is why I’d prefer Ofa’s experience.

BTW expect no more than two Boks backs on bench.

Intrigued by this game. If we hadn't won well against Argentina, it'd be backs against the wall and I'd give us the win. Now I'm not so sure.

It's all about composure for me. If they keep their heads (particularly the forwards), the new guys continue their development and the 6/7/8 combo continues on from last week I'll be more than happy. A win would be the icing on the cake though...

Looking forward to this one. Excluding the WC, biggest game in years.
Probably put my AB cap on Friday.

Similar feeling to 2022. No one gave us a chance. And they were right. We sucked. And sucked bad. We sucked so bad that loss in Mbombela didn't even hurt. But the interesting thing about that test was that SA dominated so violently yet their two main scores came from ABs mistakes and the scores should really have been a whole lot closer.
No one is really giving us a chance again in test 1, the expectation is that we will lose. I expect us too as well but I wouldn't be surprised if we got up for this.

Height is a key consideration when Boks select front row In particular, Bongi works best with Ox and Marx and Kitshoff match well.

Frans will start, but will be interesting to see if Marx starts or is seen as best off bench.

Ox better in the impact role imo. Steenkamp can get the hard lifting done in the first 40

didn't play SA in 2020, played an underprepared weakened SA in 2021 and Australia ranked 8th and 9th in the world during Foster's tenure.

They should have followed that up with a "RWC Champions - 4 v 3" on the next underpass.

@W32 is that a new sign or is that the pic from just after the RWC?

Even if re-hashed, quality trolling, win or lose, that sign will burn.

I read an article yesterday from some Stuff scribes (Hinton, Goile, Cully) where they listed their team to play SA. They each choose a different centre.

Goile: Beauden Barrett, Will Jordan, Anton Lienert-Brown, Jordie Barrett, Caleb Clarke, Damian McKenzie, Cortez Ratima, Wallace Sititi, Ardie Savea, Ethan Blackadder, Tupou Vaa’i, Scott Barrett (c), Tyrel Lomax, Codie Taylor, Tamaiti Williams.
Reserves: Asafo Aumua, Ofa Tu’ungafasi, Fletcher Newell, Sam Darry, Sam Cane, TJ Perenara, Rieko Ioane, Mark Tele’a.

Cully: Beauden Barrett, Will Jordan, Billy Proctor, Jordie Barrett, Caleb Clarke, Damian McKenzie, Cortez Ratima, Wallace Sititi, Ardie Savea, Samipeni Finau, Tupou Vaa'i, Scott Barrett (c), Tyrel Lomax, Codie Taylor, Tamaiti Williams.
Reserves: Asafo Aumua, Ofa Tu’ungafasi, Fletcher Newell, Sam Darry, Ethan Blackadder, TJ Perenara, Harry Plummer, Rieko Ioane

Hinton: Will Jordan, Mark Tele’a, Rieko Ioane, Jordie Barrett, Caleb Clarke, Damian McKenzie, TJ Perenara, Ardie Savea, Sam Cane, Ethan Blackadder, Sam Darry, Scott Barrett (c), Tyrel Lomax, Codie Taylor, Tamaiti Williams.
Reserves: Asafo Aumua, Ofa Tu’ungafasi, Fletcher Newell, Tupou Vaa’i, Luke Jacobson, Cortez Ratima, Beauden Barrett, Anton Lienert-Brown.

Cully’s forward pack is extremely ambitious. Hinton’s backline seems unlikely.

What they agree on: 1-4, Ardie starting, 10-12, Will Jordan starting, 16-18,
