Tiger is Back and I'm not disappointed

@crucial but there is the argument that there are more players capable of winning each week...Speith and Johnson are outstanding players, not yet been at the top as long though.
Not to mention similar arguments have been made of Nicklaus' era re his dominance in an era when so many were capable.
Comparing eras is never fair to anyone.
I just hope Tiger is back for a sustained period and his head is in the game.

Tiger was a bit shit yesterday on a very tough day (think only Hoffman was under par) but wow hes been good today. Currently -5 for the day and -9 overall going down the 18th.
Round of the day (and tournament) though looking Ricky Fowlers. Currently with a 3 shot lead at -17. Birdied the first 7 holes to go out in 28. Could be a low low round here

I'll give the TV coverage a free pass as it is his first tournament back but I watched a bit of the 3rd round on Sunday morning and they continued to show every shot of the lowest ranked player in the field as he slid down the leaderboard. He will always get more coverage when not contending than Mr Average Tour guy but making every tournament all about Tiger every time he plays just turns the sport into a sideshow. Golf media has to show some self-control and ignore him if he is down the field like they ignore all the other non-contenders.

They simply can't at the moment as he is just so good for the sport. I think I read that this tournament has higher ratings than the majors this year?
I don't think Tiger would happily carry on if he was a rubbish all the time.
There were certianly some Tiger of old plays this weekend. I really enjoyed it

I'd argue that it isn't good for golf long-term - it just stops them focusing on the current crop (although they are harder to focus on because there are so many of them). The coverage rates now because Tiger makes mainstream news and people tune in who have only a passing interest in golf.
I don't think Tiger will be rubbish but what if he is just respectable? It's almost a decade since he won a major after all. Of course he can still win another but then so can many others on the tour.
Which Tiger plays of old were there?

There will be golf with Tiger and golf without Tiger. I think the sport just needs to make hay while they can do so until the next freak of golf comes along. At the moment the rest are just 'same same' in terms of golf marketing ability.

I'm grumpy today which is why I went on a mini-rant. Maybe the next freak of golf won't come along for 20 years, at the moment it is hard to be sure that any of the current crop will get to 10 majors given the way they are being shared about. So is every tournament going to be about Tiger until he goes on the Champions Tour? He may well be competitive for years as he is bloody good at golf and not an old man yet but he may be just one of the pack ranked low in the top 50 - big Phil is ranked 35 at age 47.

Tiger may have a nervous sleep tonight in anticipation of the final round of the Tour Championship, the so called 5th major. He has a three shot lead
I always thought the Players Championship was the "so called 5th major"? Or is that now the so called 6th major?
Anyway it could be a great last day with a 3 way battle between the old master and the next generation. Or it could be a fizzer ... it isn't a birdie fest which means a lot can still happen. Scoring so far today indicates Tiger could well win with a par round and anything under par will be decisive.
