Looks like Brenda has played hard-ball. Harry & Megs can no longer use HRH and are paying back the £2.4m for the cottage renovation.
Sounds reasonable to me.
You can't use HR if not a representative of the monarch, so that one was obviously coming. Queenie can't take back her gift of the cottage so the reno cost repayment is a clever (and cheap) way to keep them secure when in the UK. The cottage is in the grounds of the house, which in turn is deep within the protected lands at Windsor. No paps or plebs are getting in there easily and that lessens the need for extensive and expensive private security. A cheap trade off.

So I assume they will have to pay for any personal security out of their own pocket?
think that is one of the issues, whether he has 'stepped' away from his Royal duties or not, he is and always will be a British Royal, and as such, a target for some.
So there will always be security needs to protect him

So who pays will be a bone of contention I'm sure. The Canadian taxpayer might not be thrilled about incurring costs associated with him living in Canada long term

@canefan just come out of the commonwealth coffers, it's all good.
So does that mean they'll still have to do some commonwealth work?

It’s not actually confirmed anywhere that they will live in Canada is it?
Quite happy for Harry, honestly. He lost his Mum (indirectly the press were at fault) and it wouldn’t have taken much to fear it happening again to his new family.
I live in the UK for my wife, so although his situation is completely different (wait. Major Rage isn’t a royaI hear you gasp), it would still be hypocritical of me to hold any other view.
I don’t agree with how it was done, but that’s not really my business. The furore it’s caused has been a long time coming. People are so bored of woke. Amazing that it took this to kick it all off.

The authorities will have to pay to keep him safe. Actually have no problems with this as I think it's the same as former PM's, the likes of Nigel Farage, Corbyn or even retired Army chiefs

Yeah. The whole thing seems to have been settled sensibly.
Earlier there seemed lots of talk from the MM & Harry camp that they wanted to be part-time Royals/have their cake and eat it which seemed to be getting up people's noses.
Hopefully that's been put to bed and they can get on with their lives

Harry and Meghan messed up their announcement big time. If they had said they were retiring from being active Senior Royals, but not from being loyal family to those who are, they would have had a lot more good will.
I know nothing of the merits of Canada as a place to bring up kids but I hope young Archie has a happy and healthy childhood.

The announcement was a cock-up & I sense they'd have had a huge amount of public support if they'd told Brenda first.
I wish them well - anyone who's prepared to go incognito to see active service, as Harry did, is a GC in my book

I'm becoming more and more convinced that Harry is a nice guy but pretty dim. New addition to the Sussex insta is a speech where he says he's not happy with the deal.
Look at his history and you can assume he ain't the sharpest tool in the shed

Seemed more of a "whatever, things will change once Dad is King" sentiment.

Ideally would have had the deal sorted before announcing anything, but if the Sun were going to break the news anyway, not a lot of options. The deal seems reasonable enough - step back, stop using HRH and lose the taxpayer money. Getting someone out of the line of succession is painful (all realms have to pass legislation to that effect), so I can see why nobody can be bothered.
Side note - great-grandchildren of the current monarch normally wouldn't get the titles of HRH or Prince(ess) unless in direct line, but grandchildren qualify, so Archie probably would have been upgraded when the Queen dies if it was that important to them (I doubt it was more than a minor irritant).
