Anyone else just fucking had it with this thing? Seems like it's a 3rd world problem now, so lets get back to normal aye?

I'm with you Jerry.
I just stood in a queue at Westpac, who are already operating reduced L2 hours for some unfathomable reason , for a solid 40 minutes. 10 people deep outside, 3 deep inside. 2 tellers and some roaming staff.
Once I got to speak to a roamer, I explained how I had moved back to NZ and wanted to restart my old bank account or open a new one if that wasn't possible.
No dice on either.
Apparently under L2 conditions the powers that be at Westpac have decided that they won't be conducting face to face interactions (other than the unimportant tellers I guess?). And that means no new account.
Clearly having a bank account is not deemed very important these days.

that's retarded.
What is doing my head in at the moment is that we are looking at re-opening (at a significantly reduced capacity) next weekend. All of our time at the moment is based around preparing "Covid-Safe" plans. These are based on regulations/guidelines that haven't been decided yet, are still being developed, and are changing by the day.
Which is bad enough, if i didn't remember that i could go to Coles and Bunnings with hundred of other people in fucking April!!! If someone was going to get it, they were going to get it then.
Open the borders!!! open the fucking pubs!!!! let people go to the footy!! if you are over 65, or have significant health issues, take fucking precautions!!!!

Honestly, they have to be the worst bank in the country.
Kiwibank, ASB will bite your hand off for new business (I bet)

We shifted across to TSB, and have no regrets. Small, but good personalised service and managed to do what we asked, in writing, without stuffing up. Some other banks (Westpac, I'm looking at you) couldn't manage that...

Media release
05 June 2020Once again, there are no new cases of COVID-19 to report in New Zealand.
This is the 14th consecutive day of no new cases.
Our total number of confirmed cases remains at 1,154, which is the number we report to the World Health Organization.
Our combined total of confirmed and probable cases remains at 1,504.
The number of recovered cases is unchanged at 1,481. Only one case remains active.
There are no additional deaths to report.
There is no one in New Zealand receiving hospital-level care for COVID-19.
Yesterday our laboratories completed 2,813 tests, bringing the total number of tests completed to date to 288,987.
ClustersWe can now report seven of our significant clusters have closed.
The most recent of these is the World Hereford Conference cluster, which was closed today.
A cluster is considered to be closed when there have been no new cases for two incubation periods (i.e. 28 days) from the date when all cases have completed isolation.
Details on significant clusters are available on our website.

Our combined total of confirmed and probable cases remains at 1,504.so, we had all those confirmed cases, easy to quantify, but what about those almost 400 probables, I think it was during L3 there were the odd probable that was reclassifed as confirmed or negative, are these other 400 just gonna stay as 'probable' (I know these numbers arent reported to WHO, but there must be some reason for them still)
-
@taniwharugby No idea mate.
-
@taniwharugby They concentrated on confirming all cases from April 1st onwards which they have achieved. Prior to that I think they've given up.
They are Probable because they can't trace the source - which sort of reinforces that our contact tracing wasn't worth spit hence a need to lockdown. More recent cases have all been assigned as our tracing got better and more timely.

That's outrageous.

still the solitary active case, no new ones for over 2 weeks, surely L1 beckons?
As long as they keep a tight rein on the borders, things are looking pretty damn good (Covid-wise)

Yeah, and an economic disaster.
-
the thing that is worth considering, is where would we be now, had the Govt. action been different? (realise we will never know)
I mean the tourism industry is fucked, and woulda been with any action the Govt took when you look at the state of the rest of the world where we want people travelling from; it is worth over 15b, and this having gone from that to near enough nil for a quarter woulda fucked us anyway, and this being a driver for so much other stuff.
While I dont agree entirely with how things were done, I am not convinced we'd be in any better shape having taken any other action either, but I do also think we could be in a worse position than we are now.
I know of several development projects up here, the locally funded ones are still moving along, the foreign funded ones however, stopped pre-lockdown.

@Kirwan said in Coronavirus - New Zealand:
Also worth considering that an extra a week or two doesn’t affect the politicians at al
were plenty calling for the extra week/s, but agree, many of them were in jobs that were largely unaffected by lockdown.
You'd have to think if they havent taken the pay cut, it will come out? I imagine someone like Whinny would be first to come out and say no one has taken it to be the first to take the moral high ground...?
-
Now we've had over two weeks with no new cases, and have no one in hospital, there is no reason whatsoever not to move to L1. Everything within NZ should have no restrictions apart from people being sensible (eg staying at home if they are crook.)
They will need to sort out the borders before opening up, though. Testing, non-negotiable strict quarantine etc. Last thing we want is all the hard work and sacrifice being for nothing because of some farkwits from overseas. The wealthy may wish to retreat here to escape their plague-ridden cities, but we don't want their bugs, just their cash.
