Coronavirus - Australia
-
Every single covid case in Australia comes from quarantine workers going home positive.
Job vacancy: quarantine worker. Tough conditions where you must stay at the hotel for 2 weeks, ostensibly the same as the people you are servicing with more stringent daily testing procedures. We will house you on a separate floor in the hotel and your meals will be supplied. We realise these are harsh working conditions but you take home 10k tax free for your 14 day shift. A bit like fly in fly out work in other industries. Tough measures or opportunities for tough times.
Please apply in writing....No?
Edit. To add some context, less than 2 months ago the authorities proudly announced that testing of quarantine workers was about to begin. That's right, they weren't tested before that - just go home, see ya tomorrow. Most of us assumed they'd get a swab every shift rather like clocking in and clocking out. Nevermind revelations about 2nd jobs etc for workers
But, the science is clear and the people in charge are beyond reproach for idiots and nutters like me🙂 -

@Siam wouldn't it have to be 4 weeks? 2 weeks on, 2 weeks in iso yourself?
or make it like real quarantine, where everyone working there is in HAZMAT
I don't know mate but apparently we've sacrificed 5 years of not leaving the island so you'd think someone might have an idea about how to stop infected people getting out of an infected hotel.
That skiting about "quarantine workers to be tested" after a year of well d'uh beggared belief

are there any stats around how many people in quarantine have tested positive against the numbers that have come through quarantine?
-
@NTA said in Coronavirus - Australia:
Crazy idea, but let's get the refugees out of detention centres, and use the detention centres for quarantine?
lol, how about one step further, we employ them to be the quarantine workers..
-
Nah our quarantine system is fine. It's going to leak out every month or so, it seems virtually impossible to avoid. Nobody has successfully done it, to my knowledge.
Yeah it would be great to build camps in the desert but you couldn't staff them properly. It would be great to isolate workers completely for large blocks, but that's unsustainable for the thousands of workers over months and months.
We just hang on for another 2-3 weeks then jab all the quarantine workers and it should be virtually bulletproof.
A 5 day lockdown is ridiculous though. I was enjoying the crowds at the tennis.

this is all far too reasonable. you need to up the hysteria about 125%

The response seems a bit over the top. I would have thought an intense period of contact tracing would have been appropriate before locking down?

THE UK STRAIN IS INFINITY TIMES MORE CONTAGIOUS AND IS FASTER THAN OUR TRACES!!!!
look, we're on a lockdown or nothing plan nationwide now, so this is entirely predictable. Infuriating, but predictable.
Obviously filthy Vics are no longer welcome in Qld.
A gross part of me that i refuse to listen to would almost like the Federal Government to tell Ana to pay for her own damn decision with regards to the tourism industry.

They never were. You were just tourist whores for their money.

Given the cost to the economy of locking down for another 5 days, we could afford to pay security guards $50k each for a 1 month stay - who says no???

I'll do it all year for that money, standing down 2 weeks at a time.

I'd be high-tailin' it to Sydney asap.
Gladys won't be locking down or shutting the gate.

I'd rather eat the packaging than the chicken from KFC.
Should be sued for misrepresentation. Always smells so good and tastes shit.
Seldom eat it - only if had a few and its the only thing open and always regret it within an hour of eating it. The grease does dreadful things to my gut - internally and externally.
KFC is fucking fantastic. I could eat a bucket, no problems. Yeah, I'd feel like shit afterwards, but I often feel like shit after drinking 10 beers too, so their is a first parallel!
Rarely eat it as it's so damn bad for you and the chicken they use is certainly not free range, but every now and again it perfectly hits the spot.
Hands up, unashamed KFC fan.
testify brother!!

I haven't been keeping up with how things are being done there but the problem regarding lockdowns seems to be a lack of tracing. Leaks are going to happen. It's being able to contain them that is the issue.
