@Stargazer haha, I swear that bloody alert is more hazardous to health than anything else. I only want that sound if a tsunami or fire is approaching and I literally have to run.
It's a fucking impressive sound... I literally couldn't identify it as coming from the phone - I thought it was coming from the walls.
The science in coming up with a sound which can emanate from a tiny phone, and sound like a goddamn bastard child of an air-siren and foghorn...Woke the kids up 🤨
Our dogs were less than keen...

Why the hell are there queues at the supermarkets. They're open tomorrow, and they'll be a damn sight quieter then as well. What the hell is wrong with people.

Lockdowns are a bitch. My heart goes out to everyone in NZ.
But, COVID is a killer. I've lost many friends in the UK, other European countries and the US to it. Many other people I know will have ongoing health issues for life now. Be grateful for a government that is taking it seriously and acting responsibly.

It is apparently the new UK strain, not able to link it to any known travellers yet.
There were 2 people in the car with these people when they went to new Plymouth who have tested negative.

I think that's the best hope for it being 'just' a 72 hour alert level change.

Feeling for all of you Aucklanders🙏🏻 you can get out of this again, it is what NZ does!!

Thats crazy eh. Assume it must be highly likely they will retest positive very soon? Otherwise how do you not get it after being in a car together for 5 hours

From a purely selfish perspective I hope it is extended as I have Art Deco on this week with thousands spent on accommodation and events and (non COVID related) can't attend.
I'm sure the rest of NZ would be cool with an extended lockdown just for me....
Hopefully this is only a circuit breaker like Melbourne's last one and we go back to normal on Thursday although the fact that it can't be linked to MIQ is a worry.
Testing over the next couple of days is critical.

JK beat me to it.
Seems you don't test positive straightaway, or even within 14 days, to the UK variant.

@Donsteppa car air-con filters better than hotels!
Although with the longer incubation or negtive tests early on, it didnt transpire with those other cases a fortnight ago (was it 2 or 3 weeks ago?) and one had sat in a car over a period of 3 days and still tested negative, and assume has still been negative.
Just a crazy virus this one!

Latest update, 5 cases all in MIQ, so no community cases today.
The band is getting back together later with the Jacinda and Ashley show at 4pm after today's Cabinet meeting.
Too early to know about community cases i suspect, they would have only received tests today
