To be fair, I don't think any of the Beatles, save Paul, were particularly enamoured of THAT song.
They wrote a lot of very simple songs. Doesn't detract from the main body of work
I fully agree and even in the later years there were some fairly simple songs but Hello Goodbye was something less than simple IMO. Having said that a very catchy tune nonetheless. However when you put it up against some of their contemporaneous output - Penny Lane/Strawberry Fields, Sgt Pepper, Hey Jude etc, it doesn't really stand up too well. And I am a Beatles fan.
Far be it for me to defend the Beetles but part of the beauty of their songs is their simplicity, which makes them very catchy. Completely different style of music.

I watched a doco on Disney about the rise of Beatlemania. They interviewed several people and asked them why the Beatles struck such a strong chord. The early music felt like they were speaking directly to the listener, about love in ways that had not been done before, which was intoxicating at the time. The later music was obviously more complex

Yep and then Yoko Ono came along and proved that not only is love blind but it’s deaf too

From Revolver onward, they were bloody complex. Penny Lane has something like 8 key changes
would just have been easier to change the locks.

I like all Beatles eras but unlike most fans I think I favour the earlier "simpler" stuff.
Anyway, since I'm handing out bans at the moment, I think whoever posted that idiotic meme needs a spell on the sidelines too.
Hawke’s Bay sucks

contemporaneous
I suspect that you don't know what this word means.

I think the suspicion lies in the quoting.

I always thought it meant existing or occurring in the same period of time. Say like 1967/early 68.
