It's kind of remarkable that NZC didn't try to line this up with the coaching appointment.

    Remarkable? Disappointment more than surprise.

Rising stars headline BLACKCAPS 2025-26 Central Contracts

A quartet of exciting talents has earned first-time BLACKCAPS central contracts for the 2025-26 season, with Mitch Hay, Muhammad Abbas, Zak Foulkes and Adi Ashok set to bolster New Zealand’s ranks.

Any thoughts on the new players? Mitch Hay, Muhammad Abbas, Zak Foulkes & Adi Ashok

What gets me is that the incoming coach will be working with players that he has had no say in the selection of in this contract list.

There is also a list of 5 players who received casual contractswhich I'm not sure has been released? From what I understand those players are
Williamson, Conway, Seifert & Allen but I don't know who the other one is.

That was guaranteed as soon as he stood down from his SA roles in March/April

On paper looks promising - has both familiarity with NZ cricket and international experience.

    Good stuff

    Why?

There are some players who don't like him and some who really do, it will be interesting how it plays out,And who gets selected.

One thing he will do is sharpen up the fielding it is one of his main things he works on.

Interesting. A difficult personality or is he just a coach who has strict standards etc?

As a local level observation, they're often the best with the boys who have plenty of talent, but not a lot of focus.

Kind of slipping under the radar - this feels like it should be a bigger deal!

Not the most naturally talented but I can't think of another player who eked out all he could out of himself like Dan the Man.

Carried the team on his own for quite a long period of time. Quite literally the best bowler, best batsman as well as being the captain at one stage.

I always thought it was a shame his career didn't start and end ten years later so he could have been a part of that extraordinary team we had.

    Richly deserved.

He's a Cantab. Cantabs engrained in the old boys network.
It's not what you know it's who you know. Look at Henry Nicolls If he were't a Cantab he wouldn't be anywhere near the team.
