Have listened to Them Crooked Vultures three times in the car now over various trips. To be honest, while I like a lot of what I hear, I find it hard to get into on the same level I do Foo Fighters. It is a little ... wafty ... at points, perhaps a bit too much of the ambient 70s style without the tight rhythms I'd expect from Messrs Homme and Grohl. But I'm prepared to give it more time to grow on me.
More time has been allocated i.e. its the only CD in my car right now. It has grown on me. I'm really digging it right now. -
I've been rediscovering my Sonic Youth collection over the past couple of weeks. This song is almost quarter of a century old now..
Also I see Kim Gordon and Thurston Moore have announced they have split. So it looks like Sonic Youth is over after 30 years -

Buzzcocks - Nostalgia. One of the best power-pop songs ever written, lyrically genius, and with a skip in my step following the great AB SF win it feels strangely fresh & appropriate today. -

Bummer. I had been hearing this rumour for a little while now, and TM was making subtle hints about it when discussing his recent (new) solo record. Shame, as they have long been one of the great married couples in rock history. It would suck if that means termination of the band. I've seen 'em every tour since Sister, and I'll be in withdrawl & detox. BTW coincidence every time I hear "Nothing Left" by the Buzzcocks start up, even though it predates, I always think "Schizophrenia" is about to start. Check the opening beat and see if you hear it: -

Yeah.. surely thats an intentional homage from SY?

One of the best concerts I've been to was SY playing Daydream Nation in its entirety at the Roundhouse to mark the 20th anniversary of its release. Such a great album that one..
I saw the original tour, but missed the anniversary tour, where they were asking $60. They usually put a ceiling at $40 tickets on their shows, which is one of the reasons I would always see their shows; the other being that their new records were always great and they always played them in their entirety, and if you missed that tour, there was a very good chance you would never hear those songs ever played again. I saw them 25-30 times, possibly more (add their side projects and solo performances, it's probably something closer to 40-50) and can recall some of my fave SY songs only ever being played once.
Enjoying this new Mayer Hawthorne album at the moment. Very old school motownish/Doobies feel
