@taniwharugby Apparently they made the boat 100kg lighter by taking bits off it. But presumably those bits were doing something so maybe they sacrificed something else to do it.

Boats now looking very similar in speed but it doesn't look like Oracle can afford to lose the start. Wonder if the fact that the NZ roles are shared between Burling, Ashby and Tuke means they can react a lot quicker - especially as they all seem to be thinking the same way (given how much time Burling and Tuke have spent sailing together)

@KiwiPie even the image in the post before yours, highlights the aerodynamic advantage ETNZ has with the grinders vs cyclists

Originally Spithill was sceptical of our division of labour but many of the comms have suggested this is a signicant key to our success. The responsibilities of Spithill and Slingsby have been divided in such a way that they can concentrate on their individual tasks more keenly, ie Ashby and his Xbox and Tuke trimming the foils while riding the bike

Will oracle undo some of their upgrades/changes now?
Sounds like they pretty much have an uncontrollable boat.
A lot faster but harder to sail and keep stable. If they hadn't fucked up the start and or come off the foils they probably would have cleaned us up.
Sounds like they are running a V8 engine in a Toyota Vitz body, and run by a pretty clueless crew

This cup buts a bit of a different spin on Spithill's career a bit.

Comprehensively out-sailed by Burling at the starts and many unforced errors under pressure both at the start and in key moments on the water.

@rotated whats better, is if we deal to them in the first race tomorrow, he will be stuck on the same wins as Coutts as 'leading AC skipper'

@canefan And Ashby can play games/post to Facebook to keep himself occupied while the others steer and pedal

@Kirwan well, Spithills presser indicates he hasn't dreamed it's over, although his body language and face makes you think he is worried...

now rumours Larry is gonna pull him from tomorrow too.

Allegedly Coutts tried to change skippers months ago and LE over-ruled him but Spithill has said he will step down for tomorrow if that's what's needed.

I know what happened in SF still has nerves jangling but last time round post their changes Oracle were much the faster boat. That is not true now. At best Oracle are matching our speed and have sacrificed stability and maneuverability to get there.

I simply can't see OUSA winning 6 before we win 1 - The dream is over for Ellison Coutts and Spithill

Which shows how much of a genius Coutts is at this game.

He'll be doing the big "Larry! What did I say?"

I'm assuming the Victory Parade down queen street was organised after 4 wins in a row?

Pah - knowing he has a rocketship and intent on (i) building the legend of Jimmy Spittall; and (ii) the utter and eternal destruction of Team NZ and Grant Dalton, Spittall has gifted the rookie Burling a 6-1 lead knowing he can beat him with both hands tied behind his back.

TAB has TNZ at $1.03 and Oracle at $10.

Get on it, I say. At 6-3 this time tomorrow, you'll be wishing you were with me. 🙂
