A fascinating documentary that is only tangentially about sports but is about ego and competition is 2007’s “The King Of Kong: A Fistful Of Quarters,” trailer here:

...Especially in light of a 14-minute expose uploaded to youtube last week that already has over a million views accusing Billy Mitchell with lots of evidence as a scam artist fraud. See it here, but by all means watch that doc if you can, it’s around.

I've seen pretty much all of them up to about 2015 but for some reason Foxtel haven't updated their on demand section for Espn.

There was one I missed that looked really good about Shaq's young Orlando team and how they could have been legendary. The cool thing is that you don't have to be interested in or like these sports to enjoy the docos.

Hard to pick a favourite but the one about Bo Jackson is awesome, principally because Bo is the definition of farking awesome.

I didn't know they were available on demand on Foxtel ... I'll be checking them all out soon. I wonder if they don't yet have the on demand rights for the 2015+ ones?

@Rocky-Rock-Rockbottom I heard an interview with Robbie where she said she didn't know the story before being sent the script (she was only 3 1/2 when it happened).

There's about 20 of them. Select on demand then channel, then Espn. There are some really random but awesome docos there. I assume the lack of updates is a rights thing but you never know with Foxtel. They've even gotten rid of World Movies. Where the hell am I going to watch por..I mean "artistic" films now?

Annoyingly I don't have any 30 for 30s despite having the Sports package.

But, World Movies is still showing on my Foxtel Go.

Reminds me of that Adam Sandler movie. Peter Dinklage's Character must be based on Billy Mitchell

A Doco series I binged on Netflix is Last Chance U. The first two seasons are about Junior College Football. Guys ended up at a Mississippi college who didn't have the grades or got kicked out of college for scandalous stuff like drugs, etc. Players were getting recruited for DIV 1 football. Has an angry coach which was good tv value sometimes.

We talked a bit about this on the tv series thread. Its a real eye opener that series into just how little of a fuck they give about those kids.

Really? I'll have to dust off the iPad. I'm surprised they got rid of it. Interestingly enough it's still here in on demand.

They did make an attempt to rehabilitate him in this (also very entertaining) doco:

Not sure if it worked though.

Broke, fab 5, we hate Christian Latiner, You dont know Bo, its a kind of magic (may not be the name with Shaq and Penny), Iverson (netflix is good), The U (part one and two), The announcement.

Also check out the espn 30 for 30 podcast it has some unique stories that are just for podcast and also episodes interviewing the directors. Looking forward to the animated one of Rodman and the assitant trainer. Sounds epic.

Of course best doco of all time...... Chasing Great

Watched the 30 for 30 on Ric Flair....pretty sad really.

I think it was Triple H that summed it, he is a bit of a cautionary tale for the younger guys.

    @taniwharugby

Triple H is a company man and doesn’t shoot straight. Naitch is a cautionary tale for the older guys; the cautionary tale for the younger guys is the long registry of names of dead wrestlers deceased before they were 40. Trips doesn’t want to mention that, not without bringing the Wrath of Vincent K down on his candy-ass, if ya smell-la-la-la-la-la-la-la...

The funniest thing about that film was when Chester Williams came back into the squad. He was testing his leg at training, the coaches look at each other and go "Chester's back!"

Obviously the true story was that CW only got back into the squad because Peter Hendricks was banned for 2 games for kicking a Canadian in the head. Perhaps wise to leave that part out.
