Found footage of that Northland prop defending the line.

I would be more concerned that the two other guys with their backs turned were the two regular captains Pulu and Parsons.
Say what you want about the coach but those are the guys that need to be taking responsibilty first and foremost.

Good old fashioned first-5/8 'tackle' attempt by Perofeta on NMS.

@kirwan Evans has been brilliant all season, and clearly much better in this game than Akira. Akira is just a big lump who's going hot and cold, but mostly cold in this game.

This is retarded. Dude you have some weird blinkers. Akira is such a stand out in nearly everything good that happens in a Blues game. Tonight i watched him repeatedly get over the advantage line, repeatedly hold opposition up on defense ( including this nobody Evans) and whack dudes at ruck time.

I did see him drop a lineout, which is a caning offense in the school of mariner, but...

Akira has that bit extra you need in the test arena, backed up by a pretty decent workrate. Surely he's a lock?

@mariner4life if we're replacing Kaino, I'd go with Ioane. If we're replacing Savea (which we bloody should), I'd go with Evans, although I guess Taufua has earned it a bit more, there's just something about him that doesn't strike me as Test Match.

    Aren't we replacing Read?

Without messing up the systems too much, surely we stick with Squire/Kaino, Cane and an 8 that can work in close as well as take opportunities in the tram tracks.

I'd go for Akira. When Read comes back he has more future as a reserve anyway.

@crucial Captain Whitelock can replace Read. Works well with Squire/Ioane/Fifita on the blind 🙂

I know I'm a broken record, but geez Ardie is the supreme avoider. Goes from breakdown to breakdown and positions himself perfectly to not have to defend 9 times outta 10.

Just watch the play around the 48th minute. One tackle, always there.

Considering last game he topped the canes tackle count and was third last night, I think you're wrong. It maybe he's been told to do a Pocock, be ready for the steal. And his steal last night was a thing of laser accurate lightning fast beauty. I think Ardie had been improving this season, getting back to his ABs call up form. If still pick Todd tho, unless we were playing a much less physical nation than France

@machpants yeah I'm sure the stats can tell me I'm wrong. Just whenever I watch him he seems to be doing sfa.

I'm disappointed that Ardi hasn't really fulfilled his potential but he had an excellent game last night. If you're going to criticise him for that performance then, short of him offering you felatio, you're never going to be pleased with anything he does.

I thought Ardie may fall short, but he rose to the heights last night. High level of effort from him, despite some hairy moments. He had a good platform to stand on of course, with his tight five measuring up.

I think we will get a better gauge of where Ardie Savea is when he comes against the Saders in Christchurch. He will meet a team that won’t have a wobbly scrum,an ineffective lineout, that doesn’t know how to defend lineout drive and has questionable leadership.
And more importantly he will come up against a specialist number 7 who the All Black selectors see as a better fit

Todd averages 11.8 tackles per minutes this season, Ardie averages 10. So there is a difference there but it isn't huge.

Thought the combo of Perofeta and SBW worked extremely well. Leger try came off Perofeta putting SBW onto a great line before one of his gadget specials. Would like to see Perofeta in a wider AB squad sometime this year.

    Jerome's surely gone isn't he?

He's leaving NZ after Super rugby, 35 years old, and based on what I saw last night he's going through the motions.

For the first test I reckon they'll pick Luke Whitelock to play 8 and he'll be paired with one of Squire, Fifita or Akira - probably in that order of likelihood, though Squire needs to get back on the paddock and show some form. Time is running short for him.

@pakman SBW”s offload was pure genius, was not just thrown anywhere,he’s actually dropped it into space knowing Ledger would be there.
I also thought while Caleb Clark did not see a lot of ball,I thought he kept Julian Savea in check

Evans plays for Hawkes Bay. Post was made by Stargazer. So yeah, no surprises about his post.

Yep, and we have missed out on the last of him on the back of self inflicted damage. Really sad ending to someone who was a monster in black for 4-5 years. One of my favourite players when on song, and has two RWC medals.

Also probably appears in Digby Ioane's dreams still ... but not the happy dreams, the other kind 😛
