Red Sparrow - J-Law as a Russian spy.

J-Law gets the girls out, all but full nudity.

Decent enough storyline, 3.5 double agents out of 5 torturing cnuts

@taniwharugby Prior to the fappening, that would have been a consideration. Now, meh. Your rating suggests rainy Sunday viewing and there's a backlog for that.

    The Snowman

Burnt out cop investigates a series of murders in which the killer leaves a creepy looking Snowman at the scene. Interesting idea and a couple of good gross out moments but boring as all fuck with some weird pointless random scenes and the fact I worked out who the killer was really early in the piece didn't help either.

1.5 Michael Fassbenders out of 5 Val Kilmers.

Annihilation - I enjoyed it, not great, not as good as Ex machina, but still good and was a bit trippy. Definitely would like to have seen it on the big screen though. I think Oscar Isaac is usually really good in movies and TV but he seemed to be horribly miscast in this, he didn't seem very soldiery to me.

    Some annoying stuff though.

There were too many people being stupid horror movie/Walking Dead style scenes. There's genetically hopped up animals around, I'll keep watch on the ground instead of up in the control tower, oh I hear animals, I'll go stand in the open instead of in the sandbagged look out post etc.

Deadpool 2. Irreverent, mocking, multilayered, still violent childish and naughty, this was a richer film than the last. I loved the in jokes and pop culture references, the clever recreation of a classic 80s track (and it's video). DP2 was a rollicking fun ride from the start, with the Bond pisstake, right to the end with the post credits extras. 5 pre-diabetic kiwi boys out of 5 sliced up paedophile guards

    Black Panther

    Watched it on a plane.

Kind of fun for a start. Loved the sister who invented all the tech.

    White bad guy was funny.

Bilbo as a yank was weird.

Second half got lame. Plot and logic holes you could ride a superhuman ... err ... superrhino rhino through.

2.5 vibranium artifacts out of 5 kinetic energy absorbing suits.

@booboo Sounds like it might be as bad as Merry in 100 Code on the Hobbit thing.

@booboo it's a TV series with Dominic Monaghan playing a tough guy US cop. Seemingly a 5 foot nothing tough guy with a terrible accent looking like an angry teen got some glue on his face and rolled around on the barbers floor.

I've never heard of "100 Code" - but I'm guessing he's referring to another case of the "Frodo in Sin City" effect.

Or Samwise Gangey as Winona's love interest in Stranger Things 2.

Jamie Foxx saying "Von Clausewitz" like it really explains things in Law Abiding Citizen was hilarious.

    WTF! Another remake?

I remember doing a marathon session of Death Wish 1, 2 and 3 in the late 1980s. Charles Bronson was up there with Arnie and Sly back then. I haven't seen any of them since.

A mate's relatives owned a video store so we used to get out heaps of videos to watch over a weekend, particularly movies we weren't legally able to watch at the cinema.

@mikethesnow I watched it the other and it was ... not bad.

From the reviews, you'd have thought it was uniquely bad and morally reprehensible. It was actually quite restrained.

I finally got around to watching “The Square” — a Swedish film with a strong underlying theme about (not too surprisingly, this being Sweden after all) political correctness that won last years’ Palm d’Or at Cannes. It’s two-and-a-half hours with subtitles, and it’s about a half-hour too long — but it’s very watchable, and half the dialogue is in English. The most surprising thing was how funny it was, and subtley skewers a lot of sacred cows in the art world. (The art project itself reminded me of Shia LeBouef’s “He Will Not Divide Us” installation, which is ripe for mockery.) Not what I was expecting. 8/10
