fuck, now I feel bad for the Japanese. No diving, not antics, no theatrics and no time-wasting when they were in front. Hate this world cup!

now that's how you run a 94th minute fast break. Holy shit.

man that 2nd half was a doozy. JPN 2-0 up with 35 to play? They HAD those motherfuckers. Then it's sniper fire in Rangoon and hello, the Imperial Army's push through Burma has been DELAYED MOTHERFUCKERS

Just like the bridge over the river Kwai. The Japs just could get over the finish line

What a dull 1st half, what a fantastic 2nd half!

Both goalkeepers made crucial saves in the dying minutes to keep their teams alive but in the end Japan paid for their desire to push players forward in search of the winning goal. I do feel desperately sorry for them to exit like that.

This Belgian team has more resolve and steel than previous iterations as in the past they would have collapsed after being 2-0 behind.

Brazil-Belgium, can't wait. In fact both QFs on that side of the draw would be worthy SFs.

    Tremendous 2nd half of footy.

First half wasnt actually that bad. Sure it was nil - nil but there was a fair bit of action at both ends.

Had a multi finish on it too that I thought was dead in the water went 0-2 down!

Agree - first half was absorbing, second half was a rollercoaster. Lukaku showed he is a really good player but not a natural finisher - shocking missed header in front of goal, took the big haired one to show him how to do it. Vertonghen a shocking piece of defending for the 1st goal, cracking finish for the 2nd - but then he made up for it with the looping header that always looked like it was going in.

I thought Japan needed to keep pressing - no way they wanted the last 15 minutes of crosses into their box with so many big players they couldn't cope with. But had a feeling once that last corner was caught cleanly that the break was on - cynical it may be but they needed to take out de Bruyne before he got moving.

And Brazil v Belgium will be a cracker of a Q final - as will France v Uruguay. It is the Euro v Euro games that have been tedious so far. Which means England's game should be good - and Sw v Sw is probably best avoided!

Japan was compact and organised at the back which meant Belgium struggled to create many chances in the 1st half. Lukaku and Witsel had half-chances but nothing much else. I didn't think that De Bruyne was that prominent in the 1st half either, and Lukaku looked frustrated with his lack of service.

Great to see and sets a great example.

I work for a Japanese company and see this type of article doesn't surprise me but it still makes me happy.

I liked the story that when they played Colombia fans, the Japanese fans started gathering up all their rubbish from the stands at the end of the game - the Colombian fans asked them what they were doing and when they were told, they did the same thing. Warm fuzzies

However they were at least beaten by a side who also played to win by scoring goals in open play, who didn't spend the last half diving like say Brazil would. Japan scored more easily than against other sides because the Belgians played way more up field than most.
