Yup you've gotta find some service that is small enough they haven't tracked it down yet, and not pay for it cos they could block it at any time

See if the Last Jedi is available, or the latest Thor. And it plays without the proxy error

@kirwan maybe try mulvad? Think it's free for a 1 hour trial.

VPNs are getting less and less effective for accessing content as the content providers are putting more effort into identifying them and shutting them down.
It isn't difficult, basically if you see more requests than normal from an IP address it is likely to be a VPN.
I have heard that DDNS is better although I haven't tried. If accessing outside of a browser (eg an App) then many providers now insist that location services is turned on or the app won't function. Hard to get around that.

Thanks I’ll take a look at that too. I’d be fine with browser based as last resort.

I've used TOR when desperate, but the problem is getting a IP based in the country you want, or at least accepted. Becomes very hit and miss.

So @Kirwan I just had a thought that I should have tried.

I have a friend who is in Tenerife today and couldn't find anywhere open to watch the first half of ABs. Thinking the UK sky app won't work overseas he used TunnelBear to VPN to UK on his phone then tethered the ipad to the phone and the sky app works on the ipad.

    Tried that option for Netflix?

@bones that us right cunning! If only these punks would genuinely make content available worldwide for a decent price. Sucks that they've got tech to really hamper vpns these days

@paekakboyz yeah I haven't tried it on Netflix yet, but thinking it probably still won't work.

Oh I mean my friend. My friend hasn't tried it.

My friend can confirm it works. He's over in Oz and they don't have Better Call Saul on Netflix so he tried the tether to VPN (to UK) phone and can now watch it. Neat trick.

Anyone have much experience with using an Nvidia Shield TV as a media streaming device? Seems to be a good choice if you want chromecast etc, and need to use a VPN sometimes.

Right old topic, new question: is anyone using VPN mainly for privacy concerns or is it mainly access for overseas services?

I've heard good things about NordVPN - particularly around Netflix. But of course that changes regularly.
