@Nepia I think it's a good article hightlighting the sad state of sports journalism in NZ.
I was disappointed when i got to the end. There was the makings of something interesting there, and he sort of skipped over it. It's half anecdote, then a quick summation of the lay-offs, and then it ended with a fizz.
It's an interesting topic for people like us who love sport, and wouldn't mind reading about it, but are given almost nothing.

@Stargazer No wonder the standard of reporting is so bloody low.
I didn't think the article was that well written, but what it outlines is disgraceful
ODT, as always, is an outlier, with their three sports journos attending most events in their patch, but even they've cut back on what might be considered "luxuries" - ie. sitting for all four days at a Ford Trophy match.
Steve Hepburn used to attend most away Highlanders games (edit: in NZ) but now might head to the Crusaders match in Chch and maybe an away playoff match in NZ.
-
@mariner4life Agree with you, the article could have had way more substance.
-
Seems to me that the article writer missed a trick by not pointing out some journos who get to keep their jobs despite writing nothing but crap.

@Nepia I can't be bothered. I don't care if you're not interested, only because of who has written it.
You're taking this more seriously than intended.
There’s a shock
I think the author wants me to feel sympathy for these people. Fucked if I know why I would though, if they were actually good at the jobs they wouldn’t have a patreon begging bowl at the top of the page .

I'm happy to put Phil Gifford down in the Wynne Gray/Chris Rattue bracket after his latest bitter article about Ireland being boring. Came across as a complete cock of Stephen Jones proportions.
Mark Reason is a rung above purely cos he very occasionally writes with a bit of flair at least.

This post is so confusing. I assume you've never read Gifford before? Reason is an equivalent cock of Jones proportions - which is about right because Jones was Daddy Reason's protege.
Also, I hear Charlie Ngatai is carving up for Lyon.

This post is so confusing. I assume you've never read Gifford before? I have, he's gotten worse with age Reason is an equivalent cock of Jones proportions - which is about right because Jones was Daddy Reason's protege. didn't know that. I stand by my initial post though
Also, I hear Charlie Ngatai is carving up for Lyon. - I don't care

There are a few sports writers that manage to put out a decent piece from time to time, but generally quality is low, without even discussing the click baiters who are in thier own category.

FYI I post up unedited Mitre10 Cup post match interviews to my YouTube channel

Gifford’s always been an utter tool . The state of rugby journalism in nz is bizarre considering the profile of the game here.
it's the price NZ has to pay for being awesome I suppose cos as a rule it is pretty diabolical.

Ratturd was his usual condescending self about the Wales England match this morning. Good luck when the paywall goes up fluffybunny .
He had a point. Wales did repetitive one up runners. England did repetitive box kicks. England gave away some penalties. After a series of one off runners the Wales lock finally crashed over. With time up and penalty advantage, Biggar tried a crossfield kick which worked. That was pretty the match
