@Rancid-Schnitzel shark in the water and on land!! noice!

ha ha I've been 'that' guy before - but I wasn't lycra clad or anything. I was being lazy during an uphill segment when I should have been going faster. Got passed by this old as fuck dude (should have known he was an enduro fucker!) and thought I'd 'drop the hammer', got past him easy as and pulled away. But the faster pace caught up to me about 1km down the line... then guess who sailed past at pretty much exactly the same pace? old man enduro. Shame, and a(nother) lesson about ego lol.

Somehow I think he's done that many times in his running career. To make matters worse I saw an article in the paper about him about a year later. He's a renowned distance runner in our area and does bloody well in age grade races and stuff.

Swimming this morning. Serious volume again today. About 2.5km all together. Felt really good after that.

Good stuff. Every time I think of running as boring, I'm reminded of doing laps...

My swimming trainer was talking about a new job he was considering and he was warned that it was very repetitive. His response was "Hello, I'm a swimmer,". Even the head coach here who won CG gold and made Olympic finals called swimming boring. Great training though!

Thats what I like about my time on the bike, at least can watch sport or netflix etc. Struggle to follow it when running on the treadmill.

When running on the street and trails etc I use to try and time it so could listen to a rugby or NRL game. Made it very easy to forget what I was doing and 40mins seemed to fly by quickly.

I really struggle using stationary bikes or treadmills. Now that is boring!

i found i couldn't watch anything i have to be involved in, as during real effort times my head was down (and my outside TV is pretty high), but the sports talk shows on ESPN (NFL Live and The Jump are always on) are perfect, and a game better.

I fucking sweat though, jesus. I do it outside, under a massive ceiling fan, and there is still a puddle on the tiles when i am finished.

Running with music is great though, although my preference is high energy trance or hard house, so you end up running too fucking fast.

@mariner4life Rage Against the Machine is in my running playlist!

Yeah I cant really focus on a TV show or anything, just audio or music videos you dont need ot be involved with.

I loathe road running, but really like running on trails (walking up the stairs part)

Reminds me of when I use to deliver pizzas listening to punk music in the car. My delivery rate per hour was always well ahead of everyone else

Youtube and podcasts have revolutionised training for me. Exercising brain and body at the same time. I reckon that's partly why I wasn't so motivated in swimming

Was a bit of a zombie yesterday (these 4:30 starts are killing me) but somehow managed a leg workout and evening swimming. Sore as hell today though. Swimming had alot of pull bouy so the arms copped an absolute pounding. Will attempt a back workout later today but will be a bit ginger.

Will say it again for the nth time. Swimming is the bomb. Bizarrely my coach asked me if I wanted to compete in some races (50 free, I'm a joke at everything else). It's so weird. At 40 I'm becoming the person I wish I was at 16-17. I don't know whether to be happy about that or depressed about the wasted time. I'd like to say I had a rip-roaring time of it in my youth but I didn't really. Ah well, at least I can be a good example for my kids.

I'm pretty sure it must have related to the d picks and storage on devices. That was a good discussion!

Saturday swim session was awesome in its hellishness. Max efforts for 25 then medicine ball lunges (holding above head then squat and twist to each side) along the length of the pool and back. Got through it OK but felt fully wrecked afterwards and on Sunday. The other adults were totally destroyed. Felt sorry for them. They rib me for wanting to be first etc but that really has nothing to do with it. The coach asks for max effort and that's what I give him. We're not there to fark around.

Went out Sat night so no chance of training on Sunday. Back to swimming this morning. Wasn't too bad. Plenty of max efforts. One of the ladies was in pain just putting her flippers on. Lunges are nasty!

Tue: Chest and shoulders. Kind of felt I haven't been giving the chest my full attention, so blasted it. Feeling the good pain the next day.
Wed: Am: Legs. Not much time, but did the job. PM: swimming. Bastard coach decides to do max effort kickboards. I farking hate that and it didn't help having smashed the legs in the morning. Wasn't a big fan of the warmup either: 3x100m - breath every 3rd stroke for 1st 25, then every 5th, 7th, then 9th. But got through it all.

Thursday: Back. Not bad at all.

There is talk about Thursday night swimming is well so hope it happens. 4 times a week would be gold.

@Rancid-Schnitzel I always thought swimming would hit chest pretty hard... or is that more down to the style of stroke etc?
