the stance to not play his music is pathetic, I know there has always been the suspicions, but he was cleared in a court of law, one of the guys now claiming the abuse defended him in the case.
Can they re-open the case to try him posthumously?
Re: music, not a huge fan but I like some of it seems silly to stop and these allegations have been made before. Or is this a royalties thing-do relatives get the royalties after the death of an artist and no one wants to line his pockets so to speak because of accusations?
This whole thing is very messy that's for sure.

In Gary Glitters case he’s using that money to buy child prostitues in Asia so not playing his music would be a good idea.

That's very "strong" of you but if I want to listen to some music, like MJ, I will happily pay for it.

Absolutely. He's a bit before my time so not sure I know any of his songs anyway but had a female manager in my teens who was the double of him, creeped us all out 😬

@taniwharugby @kirwan Jerry Lee Lewis was another. Married his 13 year old cousin. Was a weirdo perv but his music is still playing.

His 1973 hit, Do you wanna touch me, was a little creepy, even for 1973. Went something like “Do you wanna touch me? Here? There? Where?”.
Yuck.

Musician gets unpopular. His songs stop getting played on radio.
But yes, the press statement is a bit silly
The removal of music from stores is more interesting which is starting to happen with R Kelly
As for other musicians with young tastes. It's always interesting to check how 'cool' they are and then check the public reaction. Gary Glitter was hounded when it was still just rumours. Jimmy Page doesn't get much heat for the way he picked up a 14 year old and then went on to 'date' for the next year. Then there's Bowie..

@RLx31
Fucked very young girls. Jimmy Page picked up the 14 year old after Bowie had finished with her

I don’t think I actually know a Gary Glitter song to be honest so I could well hear his music and never know .
How far are radio stations going to carry this? No more eagles , stones , led Zeppelin, Bowie and that’s just the ones that come to mind.
Ive never heard this song , don’t plan to either

Shot his bass player in the chest , quite likely killed one of his wives too.

No doubt since the beginning of pop/rock music a large portion of groupies and fans tend to be young teenage girls. Be easy for a someone to take advantage of that.
You only have to watch ‘Almost Famous’ to see how bands traded and used these girls.Sure, but the selective punishments is what is interesting
Why does Cliff Richard get his house raided and Jimmy Page doesn't? Cliff wasn't found guilty and there's a lot more evidence on Page's ongoing sexual abuse of a 14 year old

Marvin Gaye had a child with a 15 year old, Elvis had a relationship with an underage Priscilla Presley, Jerry Lewis married a 13 year old. There are lots of them who have escaped with little outrage. I guess these are forgotten now, in the current environment anyone who is exposed will be villified

They aren't. That's my point
If a dodgy adult neighbour back in the 1970's fucked a 14 year old and lived with her for a year, that person would be vilified now
If a person committed the same crime but was involved in making 'cool' music they don't get vilified. They have an it was ok to fuck minors card. The times were different blah blah
If that person was involved in making uncool music (coolness can change over time) they don't get the same pass
It's a massive cultural blindspot
