I think Favreau caught lightning in a bottle with Swingers. Him and his mates basically played exaggerated versions of themselves, filmed in lots of places they used to hang out, and that's the way it feels. I could identify with Mikey (although I've never sat in my apartment drinking orange juice in the dark while looking at pics of my ex, or rang a girl's answer phone and left multiple messages), I had a mate who was a Vince Vaughn type and a bunch of drinking buddies just like in the movie. It captured that time of my life perfectly

I found this quite enjoyable. The generally-factual tale of a US Army Special Forces unit dropped into Afghanistan in the first days of the war to bring Northern Alliance leaders into the fold, and assist by calling in air strikes aka carpet bombing the fuck out of everything Taliban.
Hemsworth really Hemsworths the shit out of it, and his wife (played by his wife) is hot. Michael Shannon plays a great Chief Warrant Officer Zod, and the supporting cast are great.
The movie is a bit U-S-A but you'd expect that. Mostly it is about the relationship between Hemsworth and General Dostum.
4 splosions out of 5 horsey warriors.
