Jordie is the my choice. You can joke about the charge downs but at the end of the day he has the quality and skills to fit in and do a decent job rather than hinder the players around him. He made a decent fist of his chances in black so far. And that us about all you can ask for if you get to the third stringer

I don't think the charge downs would be a joke - they'd be the number one thing I would target.

There's a reason most first fives are nippy little guys whose feet are close to their hands - because those extra hundredths of seconds it takes someone with long levers like Jordie - who is 20cm taller than people like DC and Mo'unga - to catch, drop and kick the ball are critical. And it's in the bio-mechanics of everything they do - they've got more power, but they take more time.

Henry Honiball, Stephen Larkham, Jonathan Sexton, Steven Donald and Jordies shorter but still quite tall brother Beauden are reading this and getting pissed off at it's inaccuracy.

tallest of that lot (Larkham) is still 6cm shorter than JB...

Don't always believe stats, Honiball is a tall rangy bloke.

I'm 6' 2" and Honiball was taller than me when I met him

Forget it, too many people take listed heights and weights as absolute gospel. No chance convincing them.

Just want someone who's solid, isn't over-awed and doesn't go to pieces. That could be someone out of position from the current squad or a specialist with some solid S15 experience - e.g Otere Black.

Either way, any option needs some experience at 10 in the AB's pre- RWC games.

Black is still young and could develop into a solid 1st 5. He’s been around for a few seasons now but is yet to really nail down a starting spot at super level.

Like Henry did when he played Rangi at 1st 5, I think they will find someone within their squad.

@MN5 well given plenty of us havent stood next to a guy, what do you expect us to do?

a few sites have him listed at differing heights, from 1.85 to 1.90, you expect at least one of them to be correct...except for Ardie.

His defence is not great, the Blues shuffle their backline to hide him. Although Mo'unga is also a shitty defender so I guess that doesn't rule a player out

The bigger concern with Black is the quality/consistency of his passing. It's not just about the errors, the whole alignment changes when a better passer like Plummer subs on.

ok, thanks for your valuable input...🤔

Mentioned above somewhere, but you'd have to say one of the form NZ 10s is Hayden Parker...

Going back to when Braid played for the Reds, I thought he should have been eligible for the ABs given he was playing against our guys week in week out in the same comp so easy to gauge his form....same applies to Parker.

@No-Quarter I'd play Nonu at first five ahead of Jordie! 🙂

Nonu is short and actually has a decent boot on him. Think we're on to something here.

I posted Nonu in the other thread a few days back. Rather have him stare the ship against some minnows and have him there than take some pleb like perofeta to the RWC

Or, perish the thought, Ian Foster who had a game or two at first five for Waikato. He is already on the NZRFU payroll so would not cost us shareholders any more.

I played tennis with Ian Foster once (while he was playing for Waikato)
He wasn't that good. His forehand lacked power.
I didn't think this comment deserved its own thread, so I thought I'd leave it here.

But have you gauged their height while sitting, while also eating breakfast with them?

DC, Hayden Parker, Colin Slade, Tom Taylor, Lima Sopoaga, Ihaia West and Jimmy Gopperth aren't currently under NZRU contracts so are therefore are ineligible. They aren't going to remove that rule for a third-choice First Five.
I assume Jordie B, Ryan Crotty and TJP are already in the squad, but could at a push play there against Canada or Namibia. So the poll is about a specialist three-choice First Five Eight.
My vote went for Mitchell Hunt. Part of the winning Crusaders set up. 35 Super Caps. Kicks goals and can drop goals. Knows how to close a game out. World Rugby Junior Champion. Can cover fullback. Organised and composed, cool in pressure situations.

Sorry Sparky, but the fact that you saw fit to mention these guys is hilarious to me. The only player even up to it is Lima and even then he's probably been out of the set up too long to slot back in, fitness wise etc.

    LOL West......LMAO Gopperth......

I somehow doubt the same Gopperth who was miles from AB selection at his absolute best is gonna be close now he's about 50 years old.
