Back when this record came out me and a buddy bushwacked for 45 minutes to get to a bush party that we were tipped was going to feature some lovely females. That would have been nice. Instead the party turned out to be nine greasy longhairs we didn't recognize, sitting on logs around a case of beer air-guitaring & banging their heads to this cassette tape playing on a boombox.

Sam has been in the computer business for 25 years and is finally sick of the stress. He quits his job and buys 50 acres of land in Alabama to be as far away from humanity as possible.

Sam sees the mailman once a week and gets groceries once a month. Otherwise, it’s total peace and quiet.

After 6 months or so of almost total isolation, he’s finishing dinner one day when someone knocks on his door. He opens it and there is a big, bearded man standing there. “Name’s Enoch… Your neighbor from four miles over the ridge… Having a party Saturday… Thought you’d like to come.”

“Great,” says Sam, “after 6 months of this I’m ready to meet some local folks. Thank you.”

As Enoch is leaving he stops, “Gotta warn you there’s gonna be some drinking.” “Not a problem… After 25 years in the computer business, I can drink with the best of ‘em.”

Again, as he starts to leave, Enoch stops. “More ‘n’ likely gonna be some fightin’ too.” Damn, Sam thinks… Tough crowd. “Well, I get along with people. I’ll be there. Thanks again.”

Once again Enoch turns from the door. “I’ve seen some wild sex at these parties, too.” “Now that’s not a problem,” says Sam, “Remember I’ve been alone for 6 months! I’ll definitely be there… By the way, what should I wear?”

Enoch stops in the door again and says, “Whatever you want, just gonna be the two of us.”

Parallelogram - now that's a single use songword right there. Can't ever have appeared in any other song, surely.

Hawkwind famously had a follower called Stacia, an earth-mother type who would appear at many of their shows and without fail get naked and dance on stage. Like Bez from Happy Mondays and, according to legend, of a similar rating as him on both the physical pulchritude and ingested substances scales.

Edit: On a whim I googled her. Impressive doesn't begin to describe her. Don't google it from work.

The album's not bad, but you can see they rushed it through (given the project, 8 songs in 8 weeks or whatever) the song-writing is not quite at the usual level. It's a definite step down from Wasting Light. I would put it at about the same level as "There is Nothing Left to Lose" which is my least favourite FF album.

I really like "Something from Nothing" and yeah "I Am a River" is pretty good. But "Congregation" is the one that, when i first heard the album, I wasn't really taken with, and then i heard it live, and now i love it.

Better to be a bit raw than the other way IMHO. Wasting Light was a good album, but some of the tracks on it felt a bit over-engineered. White Limo or Miss the Misery for example, I could take or leave.

Outside is the best track on the album for mine. Not really convinced about the Joe Walsh solo, seems a bit odd, but the song is great.

Wasted light is a much much better album in my opinion. Probably because it reminds me of the 2011 RWC, which I have quite fond memories of.

I know everyone holds thoughts or memories of people based on how they experienced them but as far as I am concerned death finally caught up on him as it should have done many times.

It irks me when every talking head comes out and says what a hard living but great bloke he was because they are either the ones who weren't affected by his lifestyle or were personal enough friends that maybe he apologised to them along the way.

Brazier was a drug addict and did all the shit drug addicts do and made life horrible for those around them.

I was dragged into his 'world' back in the 80s when he decided that the house I was then living in would become his hangout for a while. I had no idea it was him as things were mostly happening when we weren't at home to start with but stuff started going missing and we started wondering about some strange comings and goings. Then one night came home to find Brazier wandering around our bedroom out of his tree. We were stuck there until we could arrange to move elsewhere which made for a hellish week of barricading ourselves into our room while drug binges were going on down the hall. At one point called the cops just to say where we were living and that whatever was going on we had no part of it. The cop we talked to said they knew already as they had been watching the house (and us).

I used to do a bit of sound and lighting work for bands in those days as well and came across him a few times after that and he was always acting like a complete tosser.

His death just brings back some rather horrible memories.

The closest I got to him was watching him on TV on "Radio with Pictures", but those Hello Sailor songs are part of my youth.
