Savea best on ground. Huge game. If Read wasn't our captain he would be very worried.

Sam Cane. Never seen him carry so often, and so well. Big defense and good over the ball. That drop in space though...

A Smith. Great distribution, but it was some tough and clever defensive work that I really liked

Went with Ardie, Cane and Laumape. Really like that 7/8 combo, why don’t we move Read to 6 - he’s lost a bit of pace at the back off the scrum but we still need his experience on the park.

Worst on the field for me was Fifita. Really have doubts around him and his discipline in the tackle.

Surprised BB didn't get more love, made some try saving tackles, kicked well, made awesome breaks, not sure he could have done more.

Coles, ardie and BB. Coles was in everything while Ardie was best on the park for us. BB's open play and line breaks were good. Creating space and chances.

can't believe i am about to write this, but...

I can't believe Retallic has 18 votes. I thought this was one of his poorer games for NZ. He gave away a couple of dumb penalties at bad times, and was stationed a lot wider than usual, negating a lot of his usual impact. Not saying he was bad, but top 3 on the field for us? This weekend? Is it because he took an intercept, and yelled a lot at the death?

He has 7 more votes than our starting front row combined, who all had very big games. That seems like a disparity.

    I agree.

The other thing that i couldn't get out of my head watching was WTF has happened with Angus Ta'avo. That guy was ok for Auckland, but I did not believe watching him at the time he'd get to this level. Well done to him - what an amazing redemption story

Edit: with him, Karl and Braydon out there, Auckland is clearly still producing ABs, just not through the Auckland/Blues system πŸ˜ƒ

Fifita, J Barrett and Reece have votes which is likely more eye opening than BBBR's guaranteed votes just for taking the field.

Perhaps like most props he just needed the time and a particular environment? He was pretty average when he was at the Waratahs too.

I think reactions (and votes) tend to be polarised - most people tend to post about things that really impressed them or pissed them off.

I try not to judge harshly when combinations and understanding aren't cemented in. It's more workrate, decision making and execution that counts towards the first Test of the year.

It's unreasonable to mark players down when they're occupying the correct space and executing well if the game doesn't come to them.

That said, Fifita did not have a good game, and Jordie's clearance from outside the 22 is a howler there's no excuse for.

I only thought 2 votes were worthy, so gave my third vote to Josh πŸ™‚

Me too. I thought Ardie was the only one worth voting for so gave Jordie and Fifita a vote each to not skew the results. And maybe a little bit to see if anyone would believe they were serious votes.
