Coronavirus - New Zealand

It's not just the risk - every time we push the boundaries and / or relax the rules by making exceptions we increase the probability of this being harder to control.
Why can't I go for a surf if I'm away from everyone else becomes why can't I go to the office if I'm not going near anyone else to why can't I drive to the bach have a couple of mates over for a Barbie and before you know it no fuckers at home.
That's why while I have sympathy for the plight of the butcher, baker and candlestick maker I have no sympathy for their argument that they should be able to open to compete with the supermarkets.
Extraordinary times call for extraordinary measures.

I thought this was a good article.
If the government is going to enforce an extreme action like a lockdown, then they have a responsibility to inform the public.
The questions going ununaswered are not difficult for them to answer, and there seems to be a policy of avoiding releasing information, which is disappointing.
It's worse over here in Oz, I think you guys have been kept pretty well informed in comparison.

And we just know that those who are deliberately ignoring the rules will be the first to complain if the lockdown has to be extended due to the spread of covid-19 by the actions of people like themselves.

Makes me wonder who the first person is going to be that gets made an example of to get the rest adherring to the lockdown.
Will Jacinda put someone in jail in an election year for violating the lockdown?
It was very interesting listening to the media questions where they realised that the police were tracking the locations of some people by their phone.
We are taking baby steps towards, or at least setting up the infrastructure for, an authoritarian state. We have to keep track of these changes and ensure they all rolled back.

Covid19 is actually a construct that will enable the government to enslave us all forever

It doesn't matter what the disaster is, governments around the world always grab more power if they can.

This doesn't even register in my 'worry about' thought process. I really have never lived worrying about what the Government is going to do. That's the beauty of living in this country.

That should make you treasure it even more. Burying your head in the sand is your prerogative, but loudly proclaiming about it is next level ostrich.
History is full of liberties lost. I don't lose sleep over it, but you seem to take it to the next level and imply anyone who raises concerns is a nervous Nelly

@Machpants I got a mate out Sandy's and he said people out surfing most days, one day there was pretty much no swell but still out there.
He's a surfer too, but he hasn't been out.
People surfing here most days this week and yesterday was pretty busy with about 8 people on the break out front.
Plenty of fishos too with 2-3 kontikis most days and the off surf caster. All keeping out of each other’s way tho but still...

@Kirwan Telcos have to record text messages, calls and phone locations. Locations can be obtained from the cell signal and gps. Phones constantly ping the nearest tower and that is recorded.
Of course police need a "reason" to access this but its all there. It has led Police to bodies in the bush and helped solve many crimes.
Best way around this is to send internet messages and delete those messages. As Police also have a device that downloads the entire phone/computer content.
Also if you are going to take photos of all of your stolen property and drugs it pays to turn off the gps as it's hard to explain why those photos were inside your house. 👍
Oh and one last creepy thing is police can make a virtual copy of your phone which records everything done on the phone including the actual voice calls, accurate gps etc.

Not at all, as I also don't think of the thought process around the people saying it. Everyone is allowed a thought process whether it is nervous nelly or not. I just think people lose faith in process where I haven't.
