@Bovidae I know some of the building companies had already started rejigging work on sites to limit numbers on site, often just to a single tradie where possible.
One trade on site at a time is compulsory under the standards and procedures anyway.

on a purely personal note, I'm just waiting to hear what the overseas travel restrictions will be in the medium term - I have a household lot of goods in storage in Australia that I may not be able to get shipped over for years. It would be nice to have all my books, hobby stuff, paintings and tech gear back.

It would be borderline criminal to extend this lockdown.
That’s getting a bit carried away.
Criminal?I think you can say anything after the word "borderline" and get away with it can't you?
But yeah, criminal is obviously a reach - but I genuinely do think we are entering into some sort of wilful destruction territory.
We have 18 people in hospital total!!!!
The data is now in , we know enough to act faster than we thought we could. There is no magic over the initial 4 weeks, we should be out of this now, and we certainly shouldn't be extending the pain.

I hear you. We have a house in Sydney that we have rented out, stuff in a storage facility there, stuff in our place in Bali, and a few suitcases here in NZ!

Criminal?Irresponsible would be the word I’d have used.
After watching that update we are certainly being prepared for another week at least level 4 IMO.

The stats are great, and one of the criteria is the community transmission checks.
Lots of comments along the lines of we have to stick this out, we have to be sure, worries about other countries leaving level 4 too early, having process in place for a potential surge (that they put a week time frame on).
So wouldn’t be surprised if it’s another week.

I hope that the tone is just to ensure people adhere to L4 for the remaining week or so rather than act like we are in L3 already

Personally I’d like to see Level 3 this week. Though my guess is that Level 4 might well be extended until ANZAC Monday.
If so, the pitch would probably be on the grounds of not having to return to Level 4 again In the future/concerns about people getting too slack over the long weekend.
50/50? Tomorrow will be very interesting...
-
Getting decent contact tracing in place ahead of any relaxation I think will be the cause of any additional days in level 4. Also I don't think the level 3 we saw prior will be permitted - I'm thinking more a 3.25-3.5 level. The original l;evel 3 was a hastily cobbled together reaction - the powers that be have had a lot more time to assemble the guidelines and detailed explanations this time around - if things are unclear then they should be criticised for that definitely.

If they extend this thing past the weekend because they "don't trust us", that's police state shit .
We citizens now can't be trusted by our all-knowing government??? Trusted to dp/not do what??? There is fuck all to do in L3!
Are we all going to jump in our speedboats? Start hugging strangers in the supermarket? Open illegal bars and massage parlours???
I know some of you disagree, but I'm getting really concerned with Government overreach here.

Maybe. The questions in the press conference mostly related to this story. Perhaps the govt may not be ready to move down a level?

So it looks like there may be another poor public sector IT project. There'll be some developers working long hours right now..
Many of their concerns relate to the outdated system used by the Institute of Environmental Science and Research (ESR) to manage the data about Covid-19 cases - referred to by one source as a "dinosaur". There are fears the system cannot work quickly enough to isolate positive cases and stop transmission. Another expert told the Herald the way the data is structured in the system is one of the barriers to properly mapping and tracing clusters. It requires manual work to get the information out, rather than being exported in a structured way. This is on top of concerns already raised by external scientists about the way New Zealand's devolved health system - the district health boards and the public health units - feed the data into that system. One scientist this week said some of the information is still shared by fax machine.
