They have been responsible for some great music.
As a child of the 80s, who can forget the Mockers

Neil Finn is a total legend, he's written so many great songs. I'll pick two, message to my girl and Don't Dream its over. Timeless
Saw Neil & Tim performing at the Royal Albert Hall 2005. They did "Don't Dream it's Over" & "Charlie" with no amplification, just their voices, two guitars and one spotlight.
You genuinely couldn't hear a pin drop.

Really can't go past this.

I've seen Crowded House twice. They upstaged REM opening for them in the early 1990s at Western Springs, and the front row of the Dunedin Town Hall for the Woodface tour complete with Tim Finn. Brilliant

Since there seems to be some other non rock entries I'll add:
Juice and Cruise Control by Headless Chickens, these were huge in the early 90s.
Chains by DLT and Che Fu, good mid 90s NZ hip hop.
French Letter by Herbs, and of course E Papa by Herbs during the rugby.
E Ipo by Prince Tui Teka was huge at my parents parties when I was a kid.

Darcy Clay. He didn't do much, but shit - the crazy fuck had potential.
Really don't get the whole Darcy Clay thing, bought the EP (I think) due to the hype and thought meh.

TBH, I don't think they did ... the opening of Whats the Frequency Kenneth set that concert off for me ... although it was awesome seeing Crowded House.

Crowded House are great at interacting with the crowd. REM were great but didn't have that connection. The music was great though

Some early teen tunes.
Absolutely loved pumpkinhead back in the day. Saw them open up for FNM at the Logan Campbell and they were absolutely epic. Their story afterwards is very sad. Apparently the singer squandered all their cash on drugs and completely lost his way. Pretty sad state of affairs.

@Bovidae Julia Dean and Fur Patrol
This led me to discover that Julia is still making good music and looking quite milfy too!
Also in the good lookers basket Fiona McDonald and Headless Chickens (love her stuff with Strawpeople as well)
