I can see the value in starting Ardie at 8 for the first game given its a Bledisloe. Sotutu still has work to do on his skills at the boot of the scrum - I could see Rennie seriously targeting him there.

Are you seriously suggesting that it makes sense to pick a specialist 7 at 8 because you're concerned about our specialist 8's control at the back of the scrum?!

    He's not a specialist 7 - he's started a heap of games at 8.

He's certainly less of a specialist 8 than the guy who you say doesn't have enough control at the back of the scrum

It must be remembered Sotutu was essentially a Super Rugby rookie this year (he played all of about 10 minutes last year) - there is plenty of room for development and growth in his game - obviously he's developed a hell of a lot in the last 12 months.

@KiwiMurph I think you're searching pretty hard if you see issues with his ball control at the back of the scrum, certainly not something I'd noticed when he was constantly making ridiculous metres or spot on passes. How would Rennie target that anyway?

Surprised that anyone who watched the last two years of rugby would want Laulala to start. Must be keen on jogging into contact and missing tackles.

I'm surprised anyone who watched the last two years of rugby would still bang on about Beauden's pace and game breaking ability.

He's been reasonably tidy this year. He did have a poor game at the base of the scrum vs Wellington. Which was the last game of rugby he played

If I was Foster (but I am not), I would take Hogdman on the bench instead of Karl T who has been in poor form lately. He has stepped up in the scrums and has a big work rate.

Nah! I thought we were posting up surprises.

Quite a few people talking about '20 Beauden as though he's 16/17 Beauden.

Ardie has probably had more first class, above NPC, games at 8 than Sotutu. Along with ABs games where he has played 6 but packed at 8 on offensive scrums.

Not that that is a big problem, but Ardie is far more experienced in the 8 rules than a first year rookie.

However Ardie will play 8, reading between the lines of the coaches interviews. Not too many changes first test

As Hodgman hasn't been released like Lomax there is every chance he could be selected ahead of Big Karl.

From the video footage at training today Clarke will be playing as Cane and Taylor were amongst players congratulating him.

He had a couple of hiccups with the ball in the boot.

But @Bones makes a good point: how do yo target that? Concede a scrum 5m from your own line and let's them (us) try for a pushover?

Plumtree giving nothing away, although you might conclude some big name players aren't starting.

    Funny comment about Ardie too.
