    https://www.bbc.com/sport/rugby-union/55077763

BBC with a Fozzie vs Razor article.

    Concludes....

The likelihood is Foster will make it to 2021 at least.

Coronavirus has spared him a more testing fixture list, with matches against Rugby World Cup finalists South Africa and England cancelled.

But, the pandemic also disrupted his own plans. After winning the Bledisloe Cup against Australia in style in October, his players may be forgiven for clocking off mentally in this strangest of years.

With New Zealand Rugby expected to post big financial losses, the cost of bringing Foster's contract to an early end would be a consideration as well.

But, another shock win for Argentina on Saturday might have them doing the sums.

"If they lose, things could get interesting quickly. All bets might be off," said Hinton.

"A heavy defeat and the world could implode for Ian Foster."

I think his response is a sign that he’s not dealing with the pressure very well. This statement I find pretty remarkable:

“They may know the game from what they see in the 80 minutes but they do not see a lot of the stuff that goes on behind the scenes.”

Who really gives a fuck what happens behind the scenes. At the end of the day it’s scoreboard so I’m not quite sure what he’s trying to say. That they’re working on things behind the scene and things are gonna get better? Other than some people calling foster fat I’m not sure the fern has really been cruel. The problem is is that most of us agreed that Foster wasn’t the right man in the first place and this was pretty unanimous. We just don’t have confidence in him as a coach.

I think a few qualifiers needed for 1949. 2 games were lost to Aus while the best players were on the tour from hell in SA.

We would have been lucky to have 15 rugby players after the war and that was the year that we toured SA, whilst the Aussies came to us so that we could have Maori players involoved in the All Blacks (SA apartheid).

We actually had two tests on one day. So two half AB teams.

Perhaps the most unfair thing is Foster receives a lot more fat jokes than Hansen did. Perhaps because there aren't many who'd say them to Hansen's face? Oh and Hansen usually hid in a jacket.

It didn't get any worse than losing to the World XV and Sydney in the same fuckin' year.

That's always the case when someone has success or is deemed competent. I remember living in Aus when Mark Taylor was going through a bad form slump. Suddenly the way he chewed gum was being ridiculed. Apparently people had never noticed him doing exactly the same thing when he was conquering the world.

Half an hour to a kickoff I, for one, await with great interest.

The selection process, imperfect though it may be, has yielded 15 genuine AB players. Akira will hopefully get a decent chance to show why he should have been included a lot sooner and a lot more often. Nothing wrong with the subs either.

This team has more than enough skills to beat Argentina. And the coaches have had plenty of opportunity to suss out the Argentine defence - not greatly dissimilar to that deployed by the Boks in the WC. And the ABs won that game.

Nailing my colours to the mast, I expect NZ to win by a wide margin.

@Big-Bok my only concern is that in the review they mentioned how many opportunities there were wide, so we might look to go wide too early.

In business, a great no.2 can be more important to a company's success than a great CEO.

But can often turn out to be a utter crap when promoted to CEO.

I looked that phenomena up in an encyclopaedia and there was a picture of Andy Robinson

Nah...you have to make it look like an accident.

There are lots of tunnels in Sydney and Liz is stuck at home if you need to make a call to find out how it was done in Paris.

Is it too soon for that joke?

Pre-RWC we had a few areas where we were struggling to find players that fitted well with what the larger team was trying to do:

    • a genuine, powerful 6
    • a midfield that was solid defensively and could hopefully attack a bit

We never solved those questions and post-RWC, we added:

    • a number 8
    • the annual review of the best in-form wingers

At the end of the year, I suspect we can guess at the answers to 6 (Akira - he's played <80 mins but looks solid), 8 (Sotutu - sorry Ardie, you're either 7 and drop Cane or sub....), we still don't have any better answers in the midfield aside from "Goodhue/ALB isn't the answer and I'm not sure Reiko is either - is everyone else still injured?". On the wings we have Caleb Clarke as a solid choice in 2020 but we will see what everyone's form is like in 2021. Maybe we've also learnt that Jordie Barrett isn't a wing.

Because the real questions will come when some of our senior players hang up their boots - Moody/Coles/Whitelock/Smith/Beauden.

And I have skipped the Ritchie/Beauden at 10 debate because its a sideshow until we sort out the other more serious crap and even if the answer is Beauden he will be 32 at RWC2023.

Given that progress, I wonder what the coaching staff are working towards. Or is it just passing another year and hoping for a superstar in 2021? Or 2022? Or 2023?
