I don't know about that, the genie is kind of out of the bottle now. Like Mokey mentioned something that many of us were pretty 'meh' about (the Union Jack) feels far more in your face wrong than it used to.
-

We brought back knighthoods so I'm surprised you lot are all stumped that we kept a union jack flag.
-

I'm not surprised the vote went that way, just disappointed, plus I voted to change our flag, not severe ties with the UK

Boo. I'm pretty disappointed. The more I saw the Lockwood flag flying, the more I wanted it to be official. And the union jack just irritates me now, when it didn't so much before.

Leftards will take the win, but nowhere near as clear cut as they thought.

I think this whole campaign has proven though, that the universal vote isn't necessarily a good thing. Fuck there are some giant wankpuffins in this country.

Lefttards like the RSA? As I noted in my earlier post, I know as many rightie tighties who voted for the colonial oppressors'flag as lefttards did.

I have an AB flag and a strip of black tape (to cover the AB) which will be the flag I fly at sporting events and Waitangi Day.
-

Leftards are the ones that voted not because they wanted to keep the old one or didn't like the new option but because they wanted to give John Key a bloody nose. If you didn't vote for change for anything other than the first two reasons you're a childish wankstain,
-

Peter Dunne is a complete idiot. If people thought the flag referendum was a waste of money, one on becoming a republic would be so about a thousand times more.
-

Dunne on becoming a republic http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=11610659

The only thing that makes me want to see this is watching leftards tie themselves in knots arguing against becoming a republic like they did with the flag.
-
TR - you could troll a few lefties by pointing out that more people voted for the Lockwood flag then for Labour in the last 3 elections.
-
But as Nepia said, it wasn't just lefties voting no. At the end of the day the design just didn't capture enough people. Possibly because it was exactly the same flag but with a Silver Fern slapped over the Union Jack, so it still held on to the blue and red colours which are not particularly representative of NZ.

Edit - I voted to change, as it was a lot better then our current flag, but it was always going to be difficult to get it over the line. -

You realise lots of lefttards actually voted for those two reasons? You go a bit overboard sometimes.
-

I mean plenty of 'right tards' turned around and voted for change when they are meant to be from conservative areas. I think if Clarke proposed a flag change riht wing people would do the same thing. It is disappointing but it's not just one side of the political spectrum.

Of course I know leftards would have voted for those reasons, how many people on the right voted do you think voted to keep the flag to piss off John Key? If there were any it would be a tiny fraction of the number of leftards like Grouch and Don who are busily thrashwanking themselves over the result on pr.

Changing the flag was a Labour policy last election, I'd expect more people from the left would support change than from the right.
-

The only way to get a fair fight would be for Key to have got everyone on board. I don't know whether he tried or not, or whether it was a vanity project from the start, but make the offer and let them be seen to be the party poopers
-

Judging by the last election they make up about 10% of the voting population, I've said before plenty of times I think they are incredibly vocal online all out of porportion with their actual numbers. As I mentioned on the previous page I had a tedious 30 minute lecture from a Don/Grouch type today, if he hadn't been a building inspector I would have given him the excoriating explanation of his failings as a human being he deserved for buying into such drivel.
