Perenara I think would suit League better than Rugby.

    He should go.

I think you have that wrong. TJ should be forced to fuck off whether he wants to stay or not. He was dogshit last year and won't have improved.

I'm not. At all. It's stupid to want a quality player to fuck off to League. Everyone here moans about the exodus and lack of depth, then wants a capped player to go. You're all a bunch of fluffybunnies! I want him to stay, because we need as many good players in SR as possible. In last years SR he was one of the best by far.

I'm not saying he should be picked for the ABs, however.

But man the Canes need him, and he played like a French nine, with the play going through him. Canes would be so much better with TJ there to be the play maker rather than Leger, or to take some of the weight off Love.

I'd prefer he stays, but if he wants to play League, go for it and god bless. Scored one of the best tries you'll ever see (Namibia RWC) and played his guts out for NZ.

Still was headless, and I'll never forgive him for flapping around at the back of the scrum at the end of Lions 3. But that's life, he'd be top 3 halfbacks in NZ still.

So this is why Kirwan was talking tough about resigning TJP.

Wouldn't be surprised if it was just a negotiating tactic.

Seems like it to me too, I mean he would get a shit load more money in Japan or NH rugby I would imagine. Would prefer him not to go, but as I say with anyone that does go, c'est la vie. I will stick with players that want to be here.

@machpants agreed, he's not as bad as alot of Ferners make him out to be. The Canes really need his leadership and passion, just look at how Coles has transformed the attitude of the Canes since he's come back into the fold.

I really hope this noise about him signing with the Roosters is just a ploy to get him a solid contract with NZR.

Does anyone think he'd take a non-AB contract? I also don't think he'd necessarily be good for a developing 10 because his play would dominate them. Yes he was individually good in SR but that style of play doesn't fit well for the ABs as we saw.

ABs will have to blood a new HB soon as Smith,Perenera and Weber are all getting on in age.You wouldn't want to have to introduce 2 or 3 at once.

no i would much rather have continue to play a guy that has actually cost us games in the past by coming on and fucking shit up.

If he wants to stay in NZ on Super coin, then i will give him mad props. If he wants to dangle "i'll go to league if you don't pay me bro" in front of NZR and then i say get rid.

My Point about Blooding a new HB now,Perenera I don't care either way but pick a new HB in that Squad.

Good question, but best to try someone than hope someone comes along, That would stick us in a hole. With 3 old HBs who maybe past it then it doesn't matter, you have to blood maybe 2 or 3 not one then anyway.I would rather try now when we still have Smith playing well.

If you use the selections for the North-South squads last year as a guide the next 3 halfbacks were Te Toiroa Tahuriorangi (26), Finlay Christie (25) and Mitchell Drummond (27).

Possibly one could grow into the role or even suit Test rugby. If we don't try we're never going to know. But from where I sit, trying is better now than sticking with options that have demonstrated they don't have the temperament.

@chris At this moment, I don't think they should just "try someone". That devalues the jersey in the same way as giving Brett Cameron a cap. Apart from Fakatava, nobody has played well enough to push Smith, TJP and Weber out of the jersey.

Selection for North v South isn't a great yardstick, because it all depends on where they played their first provincial game and for the North spot there was far more competition. There's also no way that Finlay Christie and TTT have played better this season than Bryn Hall.

If TJP isn't available, I expect them to select Smith, Weber and the Foster fallback, a Chiefs player, so most likely TTT (it should probably be Drummond).

@bovidae I wasn't suggesting selecting him. If selected, he'd be a stop-gap until Fakatava is fit anyway, but more deserving than TTT or Christie (who IMO aren't ABs material).
