    Shit. Well now... you have.
I think I'm saved by them not being available in any central Wellington bars or offies, that I'm aware of.
(I actually had a second go at sourcing some Monteiths Pilsner at my local offie on the way home - they didn't have any. They certainly had some shit in there, half the cooler was "premix RTDs" and "seltzers" - but I didn't see any Rheineck, or Ranfurly Draught, or Bighorn.

Yeah - I live in the middle of a few Victoria Uni hostels... and a few days into Orientation Week this year, I saw some kid walking down the road proudly bearing a dozen Flame Beer. I was amazed it was still in production.
I had a distinct flashback of doing that myself... buying a doz of the cheap-but-fancy-lookin' new beer on the market - taking it to a party, and then spending the night swapping it for other people's more traditional choices.

I remember loading up on whatever the cheap special was at Liquor King Dunedin. Apart from Speights they often had obcsure brands like Double Brown and Rheineck Dry that you never saw anywhere else (there were many others, just can't remember), and who could turn down a dozen cans at a dollar a can?

The Mill did some special of 500ml cans of Ranfurly Draught at something like 50c a can... our flat threw every cent we had into a pot, and bought 50 dozen, I think it was.
The staff immediately tried to implement a “limit per person”, so we just bought 10 dozen each, or something like that.

And then, a party was had.
    With horrible, horrible beer.

Then there was some of my more hands on mates who insisted on homebrewing because it was the cheapest piss per litre. It was all about quantity not quality back then

And, trying to read that, reminds me why I drink piss made by professionals, even if it is as shit as Ranfurly.
Edit: I can not over state how smashed I am while writing this.

@canefan one of the most awesome memory of a drinking session with mates was on our home brew!

Included washing our hair in the sediment, pissing in the bins on the beach front among other things on a popular holiday beach; day drinking in tents in the rain was so good.

Many home brewers have started their craft beer empires from the garage. Going to a factory brewery is simply for volume and consistency not flavour and quality.
I will temper that with saying there are some diabolical cheap beer 'kits' out there.

Their kits were definitely at the diabolical end of the spectrum. Or at least the end product was....

Can confirm Brew Day was an absolutely roaring success in the nations capital. I had far too many MacLeods chilli pilsners and enjoyed overindulging with various mates I hadn’t seen in years.

What a great little warm up for Beervana later this year.

Going out to do chin ups with my head feeling sore won’t be particularly fun

Fucking BrewDay - changed the rules halfway through. This is a post by myself on another platform - in the mid-afternoon...

    A bit of a snag.

Bought a ticket for BrewDay, already hungover... paced myself for 4 hours of overpriced over-hopped delicious beers.

Then get told that I'm allowed to stay for the evening session... another 4 hours of overpriced over-hopped delicious beers.

Messrs Duckworth and Lewis will understand my current level of consternation.

Looking back through my messages to a mate during the later session, was the only way I was able to remember such highlights as:

[15:06, 08/05/2021] Kruse: I just entered a cubicle next to other occupied cubicles, in a large venue toilet, and said out loud “quite loudly”....
    “Let's make a poo!”
I'm inadvertently proud of that for some reason.
[15:09, 08/05/2021] Kruse: not inadvertently... the other one.

(inordinately, is obviously the word I knew I should use, but couldn't remember)

I also cried out “Fucking nailed that poo” on my way out

    Later in the evening...

[21:15, 08/05/2021] Kruse: so, a “lady” starts chatting... we're sharing stories.
[21:16, 08/05/2021] Kruse: and her story includes the line “and everybody took his side somehow”
    [21:17, 08/05/2021] Kruse: and I run away

    And on reflection...

I'd forgotten all about that until seeing this conversation.
Quite a lot of craft beer was drunk. Just, not enough for me to fickyfick a woman whose first anecdote is about her ex and how all her friends took his side.

    That was my BrewDay.

I hope you spent time at the silent disco. Terrific fun. I’m fairly sure I ended up with about 8 bucks left on my card so naturally the Scotsman in me is furious about that.

Holy shit Courtney Place is feral as fuck these days. Perhaps it always has been and I’m noticing more now I’m older and grumpier.

Sawmill has a new 4% lager beer. Never a good brewery to start with. They're so bad at brewing now that they've made a lager that smells like peanuts.
