I wonder how long the legal fiction of MIQ requirements will stand given the unavailability.
There were some hints at this on an online comment by CHris Hipkins/Stuff article ( I know, I know), but the reality is right now NZ is preventing citizens from returning. At the risk of appearing like a pearl clutcher, this appears to be a breach of human rights. I think a judicial review could be very interesting, particularly in light of the fact that Immigration NZ can no longer deport people to countries with high risk of covid (India, specifically, and others by inference).
We live in interesting times, and I personally really preferred the old boring times.
That’s the most depressing thing I’ve read in a while.

Shouldn't these checks be done at Australian airports? I doubt NZ has any staff over there so we are relying on local customs/immigration officials.
-
@taniwharugby I expect the threat of being put into MIQ or sent back to Aust is being used as a deterrent, so there is a degree of honesty involved.
There aren't that many flights so surely documentation could be checked just like visas, boarding passes etc. We had breaches at Australian airports before when people travelled inter-state to fly to NZ when lock-downs were in place.

Australia have sorted out their cases
there is a very real chance that will never happen

A glimmer of hope for the ramp up, after 5 weeks of flatlining.
Wasn’t that the plan though?
This chart shows straight line growth planned followed by a kick -

Just booked both my vaccination appointments online. That was surprisingly easy, and only have to wait 11 days until my first jab.
Mine is scheduled for mid-September, so I guess it depends on where you live. Quite a difference.
-
@crucial yeah I think the original plan, which they claimed could have everyone vaccinated by end of the year was based around a massive ramping up now into spring?
I got a haircut yesterday, and the hairdresser was telling me she has had her notification to get vaccinated, as hairdressers/barbers are classified as an occupation who need vaccination.

Didn't know that there was a regional variance.
My father only got jabbed Tuesday and he's 86. Had most of the listed side effects for a night, but he is a hypochondriac so if they told him that one of his ears might fall off then it would have as far as he is concerned.
I'll be lucky if I get a shot before the end of the year. Was a "no" to everything. Thought that I might try "smartass personality disorder" as a pre existing condition but that didn't seem to be there.

I'm in Group 3, along side about 1 million other people (according to the website). So am not suprised this is going to take so long.

@snowy heaps of variance depending on DHB I believe.
It's one thing that they aren't communicating well. I guess the govt is more concerned with the overall numbers but, of course, that means they are also telling people generalisations on the roll out of vax.
Each DHB will have it's own plan based on the overall but adjusted as their demographics may not be the same.
