@frank That’s generous. Try 0.000054545454545 and remember that only takes into account kids that have been tested. Add my three kids to that list and all the other untested kids who’ve had Covid. That’s how insignificant the death rate is for kids.

‘New York’ variant is the next cab off the rank apparently

@kiwiwomble My friend says no.

@frank I guess they are constantly developing/updating the vaccine so ultimately could end up like the normal flu and become an annual Vax, and could they end up having a single one for both covid and normal flu, like MMR vaccine?
Will people eventually build up an immunity to a point it ends up being no more than the normal flu (that some claimed it was already)

I assume that's what will happen. It happened with influenza, after the disease killed millions of people first only the survivors were left

That’s usually the way it works 😀

@frank speaking of which

this was a great watch for future dystopian societal decay, and that was pre covid!
Oooh, never heard of this, worth a watch?

@kid-chocolate i really didn;t want to bite but you do know there is a different between dying due to something you've done... like swimming, and therefor accepting the consequences of your actions...and dying of COVID which you caught from doing nothing special other than being in a supermarket or something...theyre not apple and apples
i realise eventually we'll have to accept living with it but i dont think trivialising it is necessary
Maybe I am trivializing it. Maybe. When the average age of a Covid fatality is higher than the average life expectancy of the average citizen, maybe. When the average BMI of a Covid ICU and/or fatality is 100 lbs heavier than me, maybe. If people want to check their brains at the door and believe this is the 2nd-coming of the Black Plague, don’t let me stop them. They can stay scared. It’s their preference.

@voodoo not that I take too much notice of IMDB ratings, but this is rated pretty highly, 8.3/10 with 26,000 people rating it, I will will be looking to add this to my watch list
yep, I'm in! I have a min IMDB threshold of 7, so this qualifies!

....once again...you realise there is a middle ground between "its the end of the world" and "lots of stuff can kill you so dont worry"
its not just about the death toll, there are still question marks around the long term health issues and if im honest..."the worst flu ive ever experienced" which is effectively something i heard lots of times....is still something i personally am keen to avoid, we use to tell people not to come to work when they were sick before COVID

In shitty news of COVID fucking up life, just enough to make you really depressed, my wife’s grandmother just died.
Not of COVID, just old age. But, she had to die alone as no-one was allowed into the hospital to see her once she got admitted.
Even her double-jabbed sister who could have had tests every day? Nope.
So off you go all alone lady. Thanks for paying your taxes for the better part of 80 years.
Its the second member of her family to die that way and it leaves behind a pretty heartbroken family.
Imagine not being able to see your Mum before she dies?
That’s the situation two of my wife’s family have had in the last two months. They are all double-jabbed, incredibly careful people, and they just don’t deserve it.
All while Japan puts on a fucking sporting event.

That's tough, very tough and I struggle to comprehend having to go through that
