its all about persective...When I was in the UK, most pubs had Fosters, XXXX, Carlsberg, Kronenberg, Grolsch etc on tap (mostly local brewed, not imported) and I can tell you when I managed to get hold of a Steinie, Lion Red, Export Gold, man they were like liquid gold!
Those are not beers.

I think Fosters UK is slightly different to Fosters Australia?
Although the difference is arguable, one is almost drinkable crap, one is unbelievably crap. -
and now an admission: if I didn't like Panhead's supercharger, is there any hope for me as a one-day cultivated beer drinker?

Yep.
Beers are like people; they are a binary scale in the end. Drink what you like, and you may find it changes with time. Hops are an acquired taste, but they are goddamn addictive.

Tuatara really went down the toilet when Lion took over.
I think it was more to do with moving the brewery. The one in Reikorangi had its own very good water supply which is by far the biggest ingredient in beer.
That supply is now being used by Imagination Gin. -

Real Beer piston wristed gibbons ( people EVEN worse than me in this regard ) think of Supercharger as pretty mainstream these days, maybe that’s why you’re not a fan ?
Apparently it’s pretty inconsistent depending on where you go but not sure how true that is.

That would only be the case through bars having substandard equipment/cleaning.
There is a lot of wankery that comes out when a boutique producer sells to a multi.
Richard Emerson set the bar high when he sold out. He was still to keep management and control of brewing, recipes and ingredients. In return he cashed in and the business got a money injection to increase capacity/ build a(awesome) brewbar/taproom etc.
Same happened with Panhead. Still brewed by the same people in the same place (extended of course). Just more of it, a brewbar or two and much better distribution.
Tuatara also did the same but IMO became quite 'average' with concentration on the boring brews. Possibly slight taste changes from water supply as well. Also worth noting that their head brewer had left to set up Panhead.
Personally I just don't think the original passion continued with Tuatara. They had created a brand with unique award winning packaging that was worth a multi purchasing to be able to put something 'craft' on their taps. -

@nostrildamus yeah it is brewed over there...locally brewed stuff is almost always inferior to the imported, different water, often brewed more to local tastes/styles
I used to drink Grolsch in the UK in those cool bottles (imported) but pretty sure most of the stuff here in NZ is brewed locally, and isnt nearly as good.

Carlsberg is an interesting example. Over a number of years they made changes due to business reasons and the increment of those changes resulted in a product that was nowhere near as good as the one at the start.
I saw full page ads that they took out apologising to the public for allowing their beer to be made by accountants and declaring that they had stopped the cost cutting changes and gone back to the original.
Was a surprisingly candid reaction to falling market share and probably the only way they could try and retrieve the situation. -

Doesn't matter if they do.
Every example of a craft beer being taken over by one of the two big boys, ends in a lower quality product.
This is gutting as Stone & Wood have been one of the best and definitely one Aussie OG's in terms of craft brewing.
