Surprised Aumua isn't getting more love.

Jacobsen... Christ ?, First World problems but who do we leave out of the loosies when Ardie and Cane are available?

    Akira. The ultimate impact player

It’s taken years to find someone to replace Kaino. The tinkering can happen at 7 & 8 where we have loads of options

I can't help but feel that Jacobsen is a quality 8 that just oozes rugby IQ. I want to see more of him at the back.

Yeah I feel Dalton will be the unlucky one, I'd still take Cane ahead of him. Ardie on the bench. Blackadder out of the squad.

I do get surprised people go on about our trio being too small with Ardie there, then go on about Jacobson or Blackadder - who are both 7 size also.

What was really noticeable today was how anonymous Kremer and Matera were as compared with this fixture last year. None of Akira, Dalton or Jacobson were having any of their shit today and it made a massive difference.

TJP, BBBR & Scott Barrett for me. The latter's work rate was immense tonight

Just watched a replay and he was into things a lot more than I recall from first viewing. A very good game.

The backrow is starting to look a good as a unit and physical, no need to tinker with Akira at 6 indeed, he needs to bed down and realise how good he is/can be. AB's have been far too accomodating and flexible the last 4 years or so ... imo anyway.

Rather have a straight shootout with Cane and Paps for 7. Cane has leadership, a known quantity how he plays but let's see how looks as he comes back vs Paps looks a natural, a tad raw at international level, will have more upside than Cane in time ... I really rate him the more I see.

Ardie vs Jacobson for 8 unless anyone else emerges which I don't discount. Still prefer Ardie for impact off the bench.

I think Akira has pretty much nailed down the 6 slot. (And credit for Foster for getting him there). It's going to be interesting when Sam Cane gets back as I think he'll be a shoe-in at 7 with Ardie and Jacobson fighting for the 8 slot for a few Tests at least.

Cane, like Akira, is a seriously hard bastard and I can see the AB's dominating the breakdown against most teams far more than we've seen in the last few years

All in all, I'm pretty relaxed about the loose forwards. There's an embarrassment of riches at 6/7/8 and Foster seems to have a good grip on selections.

Well Luke Whitelock is unavailable as is Squire and Frizzel is injured so I'll probably settle for the temporary stand in, Akira Ioane is doing kind of ok.

According to allblacks.com stats, Jacobson has 8kg on him and Blackadder has 12kg on him. I think they're both more reasonable 6/8 sizes.

I was thinking the same thing watching the game. They made 40 tackles between them, but most of their forwards made plenty of tackles. However, the only time you really saw Matera was when he did that cynical infringing at the ruck in the 2nd half.

Reading through various ratings from media, I wonder if they either watch the game, or use a random number generator.

    It's astonishing.

Other than COVID vaccination info on Twitter, is there anything more unreliable on the internet than height and weight stats for sportspeople?

Even if they are, I’m not really seeing how that extra 8 and 12 kgs translates to anything more than Ardie on the actual field. Unless Jacobsen and Blackadder were storming it in attack like Lauaki or immovable rocks at the breakdown ala Jerry, Ardie’s whole game outweighs other options right now.

Maybe just me,but I dont get the Aumua love either, especially when rating top three in a game, yeah prominant on run metres but if that is improved throwing, then we are well and truly farked long term. Neither hooker excelled in core duties and the Anton Oliver days look like they are on a comeback. Does he have a future? It certainly looks like it, but jeez there were some work ons

Akira-Cane-Jacobson with Ardie off the bench would be fucking dominant. Having Paps waiting in the wings is just an embarrassment of riches.
