The whole thread is a funny read in hindsight. My lifestyle has changed a bit since page 1
Best part was @JC having that lady worker posting under his name

Actually feel far less wanky now. Fark some people take coffee seriously!
When I went to Tokyo I noticed they are really super serious about coffee. Too bad the stuff I drank tasted like shit
The worst coffee I ever had was at a hostel in Prague. I never knew it was possible for coffee to be that shit. I can only imagine what the quality was like during the War and communist times.
mine was at Prague Train Station!! it looked, and tasted, like they had wrung the dishrag in to the cup
Worst coffee I've ever had was actually a mocha in Melbourne. My mate claimed it would be the worst one I'd ever have, I was disbelieving. He was right, I was wrong.
The not pleasant side note to the story is that it was the cafe whose owner got killed by that dude stabbing people, the one where the guy held him off with a shopping trolley or milk crate IIRC.
Melbournites will likely know the name of the cafe.
Edit: I should also note that sadly I've never been to Prague.

Pellegrinis? agreed, worst coffee and service ive ever had (use to work around the corner)...was an experience and im convinced it was so popular just because it was an institution

Pellegrinis
After a quick look on Google yes, that's the one, I bought a book at the bookstore next door.

Ironically I've gone full circle and am doing 2 double shots. One when I start work and one after lunch. Thats just because of a very extreme period though. Hopefully will end soon. Before that was down to 2 singles. It's worse than drugs (or so I hear)

I suppose you couldn't complain about the price. It's probably much more expensive there now but damn it was cheap back in the day.

For someone who is a massive beer piston wristed gibbon like myself when it comes to coffee I like it real simple. Americano or short black and I’m happy. Unfortunately due to a bit of a health scare I have to be careful with the coffee intake but this time last year when on the road I was drinking a ridiculous amount.
The girl has a Nespresso machine but I just don’t like those much compared to good plunger coffee if I’m honest. So many different types and all so underwhelming.

seriously beer used to cost about 10c a bottle when I was there, why on earth would you try coffee. Probably safer than the rat burger I ate outside said train station
-
double shot.. that is all,
..maybe twice or three times a day
-
@bayimports because i was getting on a train to Warsaw and was hungover from a large amount of very cheap but very good beer

I’d only do that if I knew I was doing a big workout otherwise I’d be up all night.

Nespresso isn't that bad, however given you like a short black, you would probably need an option in their 10-12 range. Obviously not the same, but can be useful.
Like in terms of time and effort that's when its useful, otherwise I would prefer to get a normal coffee. I generally can't be farked at home to do anything that takes effort in terms of making a coffee. My head is normally not functioning well enough to think until I have consumed one.

Also……( Grumpy Old Man alert ) does anyone else get fuuuuuuucccccckkkkkeeeeeddd off when their other half makes coffee and it’s as weak as George Bridges attacking game ?
I wanted a strong coffee, not brown water.
I'm like that with my tea. Turgid ain't gonna cut it, I want it strong

@canefan thats why ive given up on tea...just cant get it strong enough
I like a big mug. So I use 2 bags. Or extra strong. And easy on the milk

Fark yeah.
I used to work in Yorkshire. They take tea drinking seriously. There was a swatch of tea colour ranges that were acceptable - outside that was sent back to be remade. Awesome times... but they thought plunger coffee was super fancy.
On the home front, we bought a Breville Barista Express the year before last. Great investment, got us through lockdown, and a mix of sufficeintly automated to be easy enough for the kids to make a coffee (under-rated skill), and yet crank out decent coffees.

My espresso machine was out of action waiting for parts a few weeks ago and I had to resort to the wife’s Nespresso.
Worked it out fairly quickly. Luckily I drink double shots topped with the same amount of hot water so two pods on short with water was passable.
The numbers on the pods are a taste profile not a caffeine amount. -

I'm the same, I've learnt to make half my usual when I'm making someone else a coffee at home.
