Justin Langer, such a cheerful chap: Cricket: Australian coach Justin Langer 'not happy' with debutant Nathan Ellis' accessory

Nathan Ellis goes on for an over as a sub, takes a catch, but quoting in part:

"Apparently he made the mistake of wearing his Casio watch on the field, and JL doesn't believe in jewellery on the field, not even a Casio watch, and gave him a bake for it."

Test captain Tim Paine had Ellis on his SEN Hobart radio show last month, where the pair dived into the incident.

"One of the things with JL, he absolutely hates blokes who wear anything jewellery-related onto the cricket field," Paine said. "Poor old Ell's got no idea about this, no one's given him the heads up.

"He's gone out, taken a catch — got an absolute burst for it, didn't you?"

Ellis replied: "Yeah. And I was so stoked too because I got on for one over, first time I'd been on the park for Australia, first time I'd put on the clothes.

"I was so stoked and got off and got an absolute serve. Bit of an anticlimax."

I don’t think it’s too much of a stretch to say that Oz should murder this rabble.

Without sounding like Sean Fitzpatrick I’d only accept one of these guys in a mythical combined English/New Zealand test side.

@mn5 Sad Little Joe for Henry Nicholls?

I think you'd definitely consider Butler / Bairstow over a largely unproven Blundell.

    Otherwise it's no contest

Consider them yes but they wouldn’t walk in like Root would.

Actually I’m not sure which of Taylor or Nicholls would miss out for him. That’s a potentially tough call. They are ranked 12th and 10th best in the world respectively. Maybe they both make it if we have a keeper batting at seven depending on the balance of the mythical side. One thing is for sure none of the other non keeping pommy chumps would have a shit show of getting in.

As for their bowlers I MIGHT take geriatric James Anderson but that would be rough on Boult, Southee or Wags. The young promising guy who nearly got cancelled by the PC police has had a great start but it’s too early and besides, Jamieson has done better.

So yeah, provided the sun shines lots in Australia then England are fucked.

just got up for the second half of the IPL final.

CSK posted 192. Not impossible, but will take some getting.

Would love to see Gill get going, but here's hoping for a good second innings

KKR just fell in a hole the last 10 balls. Suddenly behind the rate

nearly 8 overs in, KKR need to go for it or the game will slip away. No wickets lost, but Darren Sammy and the spinner are killing them

... and Viyer ploughes a straight 6 off the last ball of the over. That shit was important y'all

Well, saw something new. Gill smoked one up - and it hit the spider cam cable, so dead ball and rebowl. Wow. Never seen that before,

KKR need 114 off 63, with 10 wickets in hand. Going to be a big ask, but should see some hitting for sure

9 off the last three by Gill, and suddenly 105 off the last 10 overs. 88/0. A few good hits get you htere - looking forward to this.

You can tell it's before 6am and no one is awake around here 🙂

    Things 2021 has taught me

Tim Paine has a fucking big mouth for a guy who is of Lee Germon/Todd Blackadder levels of "not good enough but there by default"

Tim, you're not really good enough to be playing test cricket, let alone captaining the proudest cricketing nation on earth, try shutting your fucking mouth. Also your super-serious tough guy promos for the Ashes are cringey as fuck.

Yes England will get rolled, but it's got fuck all to do with you, and a lot to do with Steve Smith, and those 4 really fucking good bowlers.

    Ouch !!!

Apt though. He appears to be the classic pussy with loads of tough mates to fight his battles. At least the NZers had a bit of humility to go with their lack of talent…..and at least Clarke with all that ‘broken arm’ shit had considerable world class batting talent to back his shit talking up.

You forgot Labuachagne. He goes alright.

Former England Cricket Captain and current BBC pundit Michael Vaughan in hot water for a sentence he may or may not have said more than ten years ago.

Thank god cancel culture have found another English cricketer to have a go at.

Seems like a slightly dumb but reasonably innocuous comment but then again there’s so such thing as those nowadays is there ?

Monty Pansear has come out in defence of Michael Vaughan. He will really know who his true friends are this weekend.

@sparky far out, I'm astonished. Next you'll say that what people do is more important than what they may have said. It's mind boggling.

Mitch Marsh has for some time been a bloody good T20 cricketer. He's basically the best player in the BBL, and his play in the World Cup should have come as no surprise.

Throughout this time, Mitch Marsh was correctly viewed as not a test match player

until now, because dipshits gonna dipshit. The drums are beating for an ashes recall, replacing Green, who was pretty bloody good last season.

Now, look, the first thing to admit is these drums are being beat by such noted cricket visionaries as Michael Clarke and Mark Taylor, who, while successful captains, appear to be absolute spuds as analysts. Someone who actually knows stuff, Alan Border, doesn't see it as a great idea.

    This photo makes me happy.

How many greats can you name ? I’ve never seen so many in one pic.

I’ve got Warnie, Lara, Pollock, Tendulkar, Donald, Ponting, Akhtar, Murali, Walsh, Sangakkara, Jayawardene, Hayden, Sehwag, Kumble…..a few I’m not 100% on.

Andrew Symonds and Jonty Rhodes are in the pic as well.

Just been reading Ray Illingworth’s obituary. There was a pretty amazing stat on the 1970/71 Ashes series. 7 matches (one abandoned) and the home umpires apparently did not give one lbw decision in favour of the English bowlers. 😳
