We got my parents' done today, but it was a bit ridiculous, as each person needs their own email address.
My parents don't have a separate email address and I imagine many country couples don't.
A bit annoying to have to start them a new gmail just for that.

Just booked a haircut for thursday. And doubled up on one for christmas eve.
Life is good
Have a look at the “Alternative needed from Stuff” thread for a good haircut story.
Dunno about good. It's a short story though 🤭

The government don't even know how the vaccine certificates are meant to work. That's a great sign.
-
remember how i told you Qld and NZ Gov'ts were the same?
remember this line?
"I don’t want to see the people of Queensland get Covid for Christmas"
Guess what lady?

The untidiness continues
Procrastinating then rushing through important legislation that Hipkins admitted is complicated, because the government isn't willing to keep Auckland waiting anymore? Why do I feel like a convenient excuse all of a sudden?

MoH hope they will be compulsory (and may believe that to be the preferred option), Cabinet actually decides what will be included in the legal drafting based on health advice but also Crown Law advice (sometimes health advice can't be done legally e.g. banning citizens from entering NZ) and practical considerations (for this particular item, that would mostly come from MBIE and the police, potentially with some advice from DIA as well).
Whatever the final legislative wording, not a good look though.

There are a few options with Gmail without making new accounts - this might be useful for others with older family in this boat. Gmail doesn't differentiate addresses with and without full stops (.) e.g. firstnamelastname@gmail.com and firstname.lastname@gmail.com will both go to the same mailbox. Another option is to add + and another word e.g. name+first@gmail.com and name+last@gmail.com will both go to the name@gmail.com inbox.

I think this might be the most useful thing I've seen posted on the Fern.

I should have asked the question here!
BTW, I just tested it and it works.

@godder wow, did not know that?
Does it work lastnamefirstname@gmail.com too?

Hipkins and Dr Bloomfield press conference today:
MIQ replacement timetable, will be replaced by 7 days self-isolation and must return negative predeparture test, then day 0/1 test, then day 7 test, for groups as follows:
23:59 Sunday 16 January - Fully vaccinated NZers from Australia.
23:59 Sunday 13 February - Fully vaccinated NZers from everywhere else.
23:59 Sunday 30 April - All other vaccinated travellers.
Very high risk country list having all countries removed other than PNG from early December (date not specified).
MIQ will continue but will be used for more cases and fewer overseas travellers.
Edit: partners and dependents on NZers can also travel with NZers as above. Australians currently included in the 30 April group, but will continue to consider Australians specifically. Self-isolation can be at home, so if someone wants to return to see NZ family, they can stay with them for the 7 days.

So even as far out as the end of April, I am going to need to isolate for 7 days with my Mum in her tiny apartment? Does that mean she is also confined to the apartment?
Or, if I take the kids, which I would like to do, we presumably have to rent somewhere for 7 days, and can't leave or see her for that time?
Clearly this does nothing for tourism, do we assume that's a bust until winter at least?
