The acclaimed author of 49 titles dies at his home in Cape Town, having sold more than 140 million copies of his books over the course of his career.
Have read a little bit of his stuff and it was always good fun.
Am a little sad.
My favourite author through my teenage years.
However it became a case if if you read one you'd read them all.
Got a little bored if his Courtneys of Africa saga (for some reason I didn't like the characters or story line) so gave up on him.
Did get a lot of enjoyment from his work.
I'd double up vote that if I could @booboo . Almost mirrors my sentiments exactly.
They were easy reads, think I read first one when I was like 12 and felt good because you would think you’ve just read this massive big epic and so read a few ore

Before the cheesy money making covers their first album was brilliant and a real cultural crossover.

@mn5 they had massive battles over name rights etc which was probably the cause of that.
The Specials were similar. The current "Specials" have three of the originals and the name but one of the biggest hits was 'Free Nelson Mandela' which was actually "Specials AKA". Band founder Jerry Dammers ended on the wrong side of the naming.
Bruce Foxton still plays for a Jam tribute band 'From the Jam'. They are bloody good but as the only original the can hardly call themselves The Jam.
Band splits can cough up some funny stuff.

Google tells me the Barbarian is still kicking it at 63 years of age.
Him and the Warlord ( even bigger ) were two of the most underrated monsters the wrestling world has ever seen.

@crucial I saw them at Hammersmith Palais in 1980 as a double Bill with Pretenders (who were the main reason I went)
UB40 were just breaking in the UK. They played an energetic set and were clearly having a ball. It was a good not great concert

Barbarian is one of the toughest wrestlers ever apparently, so in one of the most WCW things ever, they paired him with Meng (Haku - reputation of being the actual toughest wrestler ever, or at least in living memory) to make the toughest team in the world, and then made them midcarders instead of hyping them up as the toughest team on the roster.
Warlord is a huge specimen, but was quite "methodical" (slow) in his style - never quite had the agility or speed of Barbarian who had top rope moves in his arsenal. For anyone who wants a fun hoss match, Barbarian vs Big Boss Man at Royal Rumble 91 is excellent.

Oh yeah him and Meng/Haku trained as Sumo wrestlers and had amazing agility for huge guys….and apparently NOT blokes you wanted to piss off over a few beers. With Haku in particular you could see the potential danger with how amazingly accurate his kicks to the head were, again, amazing for such a big, solid unit.
I’ve seen interviews with all ( and the Warlord, much more normal sized now ) and they seem like really good sorts ( as the “heels” often were in real life ). I hope they’re all doing well. The Powers of Pain by rights should have been much bigger draws than Demolition ( another pair of great blokes in interviews ) or the Legion of Doom. When the Barbarian is the “small, agile” guy in a team you know they’re special. Apparently the Warlord suffered cos he was shit on the mic ? You WILL NOT see a guy as huge ( in terms of muscle, not fat ) as he was in his prime.
