Black Caps v Australia ODI Tour 2022

Unsure how many they'll take for three ODIs, perhaps 14. Test squad members are excluded from this tour due to an overlap between the required MIQ period and start of the SA series.
So in the batting this leaves us with options including Guppy, Rosco, Phillips, Seifert, Chapman, Worker, Allen and who knows, maybe a debut for Troy McClure. Neesham and maybe CDG could be allround options. In the spin department we're unhindered as Sodhi and Santner should both be available, while in the pace department Ferguson and Milne will hopefully be included plus, umm, who else we got here who's not in the test squad (and I include Henry in that as he'll be the spare seamer kept back I'm sure).
My initial reaction upon learning the test squad wouldn't be involved, wasn't good. But when I look at who should still be available (and Taylor's decision to go out in this format is a Godsend) I'm actually reasonably happy. I think it takes the pressure off us so who knows what might happen. Certainly can't be worse than our meek last effort, at full strength no less, at an empty SCG almost two years ago.

FergusonBit light on pace and maybe a bit heavy on spin for a game in Perth but possibly the best 11 players available. Could play Chapman who bowls part time spin, in lieu of Sodhi, and extend the order but it's another pace option we really need here I think.

Just looking at the 'B' team we sent to Bangladesh for the T20 series last year, we had Duffy, Kuggeleijn, Bennett, Tickner, Bracewell and Ben Sears all used rather sparingly as the pace attack, so we could expect to see a couple of them taken to Australia. I'd guess Kuggeleijn as he has experience and offers a lower order slugger option as well, plus maybe Sears given his extra pace. But then Bracewell's skillset probably mirrors Kuggeleijns' and he's a mere 11 years advanced from his greatest ever performance, in Hobart.

I reckon both Michael Bracewell and Nathan Smith will go very close. Bracewell was meant to tour Bangladesh or Pakistan last year, but pulled out due to the birth of his first child.
Smith is the likely next long-term pace bowling allrounder after Neesham and CDG. Worth taking for experience alone.

Assuming things go ahead...Of the two names not mentioned I would hope management has at least given some consideration to mending a bridge with Colin Munro and giving him another crack. We have a white ball World Cup in Australia in 9 months and he has played more white ball cricket than anyone in Australia and is in good form in the BBL. I was calling for him to be dropped all through the 2019 WC and am not a huge fan, but I'm also not a huge fan of wasting resources.
Dane Cleaver I think is worth a punt, as keeper cover is needed for Seifert (Conway, Latham, Blundell are all in the test squad). In decent form and on a tour not captained by his cousin.
I would also send Daryl Mitchell unless Stead is absolutely wedded to the idea of him playing all three tests. I think he would get more out of this white ball series than one (possible) test match.

@rotated Mitchell will be in or around the test squad so forget that idea. And the only game I'd consider Munro for is the T20 at the end of the tour. He's proven over and over its his only decent format.
Agree on both points, just my selections.
Aside from Rosco I would pick the side entirely based around giving experience to players who will be part of the T20 WC in October or who are the frame for the ODI CWC next March. Picking the "best" team for these games wouldn't be a huge concern.

Follows on ( pun!) From the Under 19s withdrawing from the current world cup also due MIQ concerns.
Except, that decision was made on November 18 2021.
Just makes you proud to be a tough, pragmatic kiwi with that "can do" attitude" we used to be famous for😁
"Some of these guys in the under-19 setups can be as young as 16,” Boock said.
"We didn’t think it was appropriate to force young people to undergo MIQ.”Players would have undergone MIQ in a room by themselves, without support from family and with only digital commination between teammates.
Players were not involved in the decision but have been briefed on it.
