To be fair to @NTA, it has been hard to see what the actual extent of the invasion is.
Which was exactly my point.
Does everyone here know who Barrie Cassidy is, BTW?
A bitter and twisted washed up ex-ABC presenter. He can’t even have the “oh but he’s a nice bloke” label attached to him.
In terms of coverage it’s been fascinating over the past week to compare the “why and how” responses between the BBC, Al Jazeera, CNN, Fox, Sky (UK) and DW. There are no shortage of reasons and many different angles to this which makes filling coverage time not that hard.
But in terms of the military tactics/strategy, I don’t think it’s overly complex what is happening here.

I just hope these reported moves against Russia by Western countries are real and carry weight rather than calculated attempts to make it look as if they are doing something in response to public pressure. But when you read the fine print of the legislation, there are nod-nod wink wink-wink work-arounds for Russia that the general public have no idea about. The SWIFT ban for example, it is only targeting certain Russian banks, not all.

Germany needs to pay for its gas somehow.

Yeah, it still very much seems there are areas to really hurt Russia that they just can't touch.

Not overly comforting...
He's said many times: if there is no Russia, why do we need the planet? No one paid any attention. But this is a threat that if Russia isn't treated as he wants, then everything will be destroyed."

@taniwharugby if this isn't the kind of doomsday talk that gets you snuffed I don't know what is. Can't spend your billions if you are dead and the world is nuked to shit. Utterly terrifying - this isn't the (rocket)booster anyone wants, Covid or no!!
-
@paekakboyz wonder how many contingency plots are running in the back room.
-
why hasn't anyone just shot that mad little fluffybunny yet? Would anyone miss him?

Nature abhors a vacuum. If Putin goes, who steps in? Maybe he's got a bunch of yes-men played off against each other or something, and it would be a feeding frenzy.

Really? I always assumed he was a nice bloke if for no other reason than John Clarke had him in The Games.

I think this war is going to underscore how each country needs to be as energy independent as possible - even if it means using nuclear power or oil. Once renewables are truly up to speed and can support a country's energy needs as claimed, then dirty energy can be phased out. In their haste to phase out nuclear, but maintain reliance on Russia, certain Europe counties (Germany) have really fucked themselves. Biden is refusing to open up oil supplies in America by reducing the carbon tax on it, and the US imports 7% of its oil from Russia. With inflation getting out of control, surely it's better for their constituents to not have out of control gas prices.

Well not since the 60s, and even then the yanks fucked up most of the time!
