The Big Short
A re-watch from me. Brought back vivid memories of a stressful, unbelievable, incredible, but character building, stage of my life. A truly great movie of a truly awful time.
5 Master of Puppets out of 5 Smarmy Salesmen.
Has jumped to be one of my all time favourites. Love it.

Richard Jewell
Atlanta Olympics bombing, security guard goes from hero to prime suspect
This is one of those stories that's so fucked up it's hard to believe. In fact, even while watching it, you sort of think "okay what am i missing here" and as it turns out, fucking nothing. The press and the FBI did a number on this poor prick because he was fat and weird (it's basically that Simpsons episode). Good flick if not brilliant. Sam Rockwell is good in it, but then, when don't you say that about Sam Rockwell?
Also Olivia Wilde is so fucking hot.
4 shitty media outlets out of 5 I'm law enforcement too you knowsThere's also the TV series (Deadly Games S2 following S1 of Unabomber) that is excellent - I will 1-up you with Carla Gugino as Slutty Scruggs.

That does it, Iām watching it

Richard Jewell
One of the best movies of the last 5 years easy
Now on my watch list.
The movie rested on (the vastly overrated) Denzel Washington's cop character's charm
He's a weird actor for me. Can be awesome in stuff like American Gangster & Glory yet very, very average in other films. Always watchable though (a bit like Eastwood or Hackman) and not a complete prick like some other A-listers.

Awesome film. Has anyone uttered the words "Boom!" better than Steve Carell?

A Call to Spy. Film about the women who ran SOE in WW2 and their exploits - Vera Atkins, Virginia Hall and Noor Khan.
Really good account on how the women led operations and the hard moral choices that needed to be made.

I haven't seen The Mighty Quinn but I rate Denzel as easily one of the best actors out there. I agree with the Hackman comparison but I'm interested to know what films you think he's very very average in (out of interest not for a shitfight).

Gene Hackman has been in some crap though.
Clint has too but his presence elevates the crap to decent.

Haha, I don't share your Clint obsession so tend to think that Hackman's presence can elevate the crap more than Clint's can.

Genes finest cinematic moment was being shot in the face by Clint.

I wouldn't disagree that he's one of the best actors out there - when he's on form he's up with the very, very best.
But as you ask he's pretty average in Virtuoisity & Manchurian Candidate. The Equaliser 1 & 2 are a good watch but it's very average identikit acting and any number of people could have handled that role as well. Man on Fire was a ham-fest of cliched acting

I think Clint did the crap films to finance his great ones.

The Adam Project
Pretty damn cool movie! If you like Reynolds and his style, humour, Sci fi, some good feels, this has em all!

13 Hours: The secret soldiers of Benghazi
I vaguely remember the incidents in Libya that the movie was based on. Its Michael Bay, so there was a lot of action. To me it was very well done and captured the tension of the incident and imparted it on the viewer effectively, in a similar way to another favourite of mine Black Hawk Down. 4 firefights out of 5 bands of lawless locals

Close and Ava
Two female led movies from Netflix, one revolves around a personal security agent (Close) with issues, the other revolves around an assassin with issues.
I quite enjoyed Close, there was some brutal action, but it didn't seem to generate the tension it could have.
Ava features an all star cast (Farrell, Malkovich and Chastain, along with a support role for Geena Davis), had the potential to be really good. But both films suffer from a failed attempt to delve into the issues affecting their main characters.
Both get 3 lady killers out of 5 unnecessary personal issues
Bloodshot
Where do I begin? I was scanning movies on Netflix and Mrs CF, a Vin Diesel fan, was keen to give this one a crack. Soldier brought back from the dead, becomes a super soldier, bones there for a good cheap whizz bang film? The Chinese characters in the early credits made me nervous and so it was. This appeared to be a film financed by a Chinese production company who think that if you fill the movie with enough John Woo style slo mos and scarcely believable CGI stunts it makes for a good one. Sadly no. Vin mails it in, Guy Pearce tries hard, and there is a hawt female lead. But the story is so weak, and the attention to detail also let the film down. A chase scene in London streets that looks suspiciously like suburban Melbourne complete with an aussie looking SUV style cop car and police in Aussie cop uniforms? It was a couple of hours of my life I won't get back.

Spot on reviews of all three.
The only thing I failed to mention was that Chastain looked good in that ball gown and her singlet tops

Funnily enough I've always wanted to make an edit of this film as a straight up wall to wall action movie instead of the original bloated version.
To be clear, I enjoyed it, I just think there was a better tight action movie in there.
I think I made it through 30 minutes of Bloodshot and then gave up.
