Have you lot even considered that all these favoured childhood confections were always just a bit shit and it’s you that has changed?

I came to this conclusion when I tried Wagon Wheels for the first time in years and was appalled. My kids loved them though.

    No, absurd idea

Seriously though, the Rashuns we get here in Oz were still good as of a month ago. I need to try again to see if changed. Won't be happy!

    No.

Had to get four Easter Eggs for the kids……me being me and leaving it to the last minute everywhere had sold out so I though “fuck it” and got them all a box of Cadbury Roses each. It’s still chocolate right ?

I remember these being awesome and all the grown ups tried a couple and came to the conclusion that the “good” ones these days are worse than the “crap” ones from the old days.

Speaking of Easter eggs, I really miss the chocolate coated marshmallow ones. The ones with the pink marshmallow and yellow "yolk" were the real deal.

@Catogrande nah, some stuff they do change the recipe, sometimes cost cutting, others, who knows why.

But what they do more is reduce the size and charge you the same price, so stealth inflation.

No mate - k bars and buzz bars still up there. Can still remember biting down on a k bar and it pulled one of my loose teeth out.

We have this chocolate muffin recipe that we cook at Easter as it involves putting a Cadbury caramello egg in the centre to give it a nice warm gooey centre when cooked. The recipe makes 12 muffins and the small caramello eggs came in a packet of 12 so only needed to buy one packet right. Except not this year - get the packet opened and 10 eggs! Everyone knows (except Cadbury obviously) that eggs come in dozens, real or chocolate you piston wristed gibbons!

Nothing beats a fish burger from an old school NZ Fish & chip shop.

Massive bun, fillet of fish, tartare, coleslaw, lettuce, tomato, pickle.

Reckon it must have come in at night on 2,000 calories.

(spot the guy on a diet)

In Palmy, Golden Takeaways skipped the tomato, lettuce and pickle, but whacked 3 full pieces of fish in - all for $3.80. So big you didn't need chips so you had coins leftover to play Shinobi while you waited

Funnily enough, a guy at the pub last night was talking about this very burger.

One of my favourite food moments was going to a fish and chip shop somewhere nr Takapuna a decade or so ago and having a glass of Sauvignon Blanc while they cooked my takeaway.

For some reason I’ve been hammering wine gums since I’ve been in NZ. Also been getting three years of rush munros eating in too.

Also, the expected expensiveness, petrol aside, hasn’t played out at all. Brunch, lunch and dinner have all been similar to Oz prices.

@taniwharugby Also shouldn't Flaxmere be a sh*tload cheaper than Sydney?

@Smudge Wow! I experienced the ole Golden Takeaways fishburger many times on the way home from the Fitz. They were the ultimate "protein burger"!

Unlike others like maybe @mariner4life and @voodoo I'm not eligible to vote in the Oz elections so no Aussie. 😉

Bro, I'm not risking going to Flaxmere now with all my Aussie wealth.

Yep, I'm a voter here and also eligible at home, but I don't typically vote there because I don't feel educated / affected enough.

I do however reserve the right to whine about NZ election outcomes and the resulting 3yrs of governance

Follow up: Mrs Meldrew has suggested I buy these, make my own marshmallow eggs and chocolate coat them. Worth a try.
