@mariner4life It's a tough job being the All Black coach - I guess that's why he gets the big bucks. 🙂

Fozzie could have picked Tupaea more last year, but he didn't. Makes you wonder why not.

Dave is far from a cast iron certainty, but they will spend a lot of time picking their midfield, because they have some big problems there - and his name will get mentioned a lot.

@Chris-B probably what he is saying is that it is extraordinary that Foster still thinks he is a 12 when most of us don’t. I understand your rational for Fosters thinking but that highlights Fosters weakness as a coach for a position he never deserved.

Doesn't Razor select him at 12 as well? Must be as dumb as Fozzie.

@broughie Compared to us - Fozzie's got to take the heat for any fuck-ups.

Even if he picks the Fern consensus team, if the ABs lose and a few newbies shit the bed - that's his incompetence, not ours - and we will roast him for it! 🙂

@Crucial Maybe he doesn’t have any other options at 12 but is he really an AB 12?

@Chris-B I didn’t really care if we lose as long as we are moving in the right direction. It’s not happening under Fozzy though.

I'm sure someone else has mentioned it, but that's the last position available in the Crusaders backline. He can't play at fullback as Jordan has a lock on that.

His feet into contact aren't as good as RTS'. His dynamism into contact isn't as good as Tupaea's or Goodhue's. He's not a dominant tackler. He's good at a lot of things and brilliant at Test level at none. His versatility might get him into the squad but he's not a compelling argument to start.

Fozzie will no doubt think differently because he has form for not taking selection risks.

    damn fucking right

you know what, a far more amount of slack would be given with a little more transparency around selection. If Foster communicated with some clarity, and people could see a plan, then there would be a heap more understanding.

I would love to know the selection strategy.
In my mind, you idntify how you want to play, pick the 23 players that will best carry out that plan, then pick the next 13 players that you can swap in to the top 23 with the least disruption (ie like for like)
I doubt that's that situation at the moment. So what is the fucking process?

To be fair, we haven't seen Fozzie's team this year yet - and me second-guessing what he's thinking is quite a bit different to what he's really thinking. 🙂

I think we're making some progress in the right direction. I'm of the opinion that we were probably running out of gas by the time we hit Ireland and France last year, so this series will be a good indicator of whether that's true - or if we've really fallen behind.

I hope we don't lose any more key players in the next couple of weeks.

@Chris-B True and Fozzie might land on his feet but he is still crap. Sorry but I have never appreciated his abilities. As mariner said he hoped we lose in a perverse way because it will be the final nail in Fozzies coffin.

@broughie I don't think we are close to nailing Fozzie's coffin shut, so we might as well win! 🙂

I think we will have to endure a disastrous season - worse than 1999 - for him to get sacked/fall on his sword.

Yeah mean what might happen this year with 3 tests against Ireland.2 tests in SA and England on the end of year tour.Plus I think a much better Wallabies side.
Might be some disaster in that lot.Unless Foster and Co have improved 100% from the last 2 seasons.

I really like Sullivan, hope he gets a run this year, seems to have a good rugby brain too.

Funny that this time last year no one would have thought we'd be talking about Bailyn for the ABs instead of Zarn.

@Chris Yeah - unfortunately, we're no longer the rugby Master Race, so losing 3 or 4 would just about be par, regardless of who was coach.

5 would be a poor season. 6 they might start thinking about a sacking...

Going by Fern soothsaying he will beat everybody in a show of tactical genius.
The Fern is great at throwing shit at players and coaches without any great knowledge of what their plans/fitness/whatever is only to be wiping away egg the next week and pretending it never happened.

Reece was unreal on Friday and now I'm all in on him playing and being given a license.

Is there a way we can fit all of Reece, Jordan, Jordie and Clarke in the 23?

Reece has gotten better this season. He’s cut down his error rate without it affecting his instinctual play. People point to Jordan’s play and it has taken a step up also, but I think Reece has been our best back.

There is a way to fit all of them into a starting XV 😉

I've said before i am down with that. At least we'll be fun to watch.

I would normally say that perhaps selecting all 4 of those blokes (and possible having them on the field at the same time) might be a bit high-risk and perhaps, for balance, we need a couple of "safer" options elsewhere in the backline. However, when your "safe" options are guys like Havili and Bridge, you have nothing to lose by taking selections risks.

Actually Razor selected him there first and still reckons he should be AB 12, Just don't tell the Razor fan club he thinks the same as Fozzie.
