Payments made to ex-pats living abroad, and now kiwis down under? Jesus wept
Is that David Parker or a lesbian comedian?

after the furore of the Nats MP who bullied someone at school, now Labour allegedly covering up internal bullying...

@taniwharugby he's yet to actually reveal jack-shit imo. The bullying claims against him by his own staff are interesting and it sounds more and more like an entitlement issue and not being a big fish in parliament. If there is evidence the the folks involved need to be held to account but so far? 🤷♂️

They said two clients in China who have Queenstown rental properties but have never lived in New Zealand got the first $116 payment.
"I told them to repay. It's not their fault they've received the money."
The Government has no idea how many overseas investors got the cash.
"Well we'll never know with certainty," Revenue Minister David Parker said.

@canefan Not ideal, but if you were going to give the payment it sort of makes sense to get it out quickly while it can do some good (not that I think it does) rather than waste time auditing the recipient list. Given the productivity of ministry admin staff probably saves money too.

@taniwharugby speaking of which it has only taken 24 hours for the govt to climbdown over putting GST on Kiwisaver contributions

Pretty clear message sent by voters in most of the main centres today. I may not live in Dunedin, but I was thrilled to see Hawkins dropped.

Auckland is in the mood too. It appears many of those strongly affiliated with Jacinda are going down. Who knew Aucklanders loved their cars so much!
