Anyone seen George Thorogood live (recently)?
According to my phone he is playing in welly this weekend. Just wondering if it’s worth it or if he is cashing his pension?

Was having a chat with a mate about George the other day.

With the exception of “One bourbon, one scotch, one beer” I reckon his brand of rock has aged really badly.

Used to be kinda fun but just a bit cringy now, looking back.

Yeah. I did my usual trick for 'aging' performers and looked for videos of recent gigs. Don't know if a 10 minute drawn out version of Bad to the Bone will hold my interest. I'm not a fan, just enjoy live music at it doen't hit town that often these days.

Yeah his upcoming gig must have been why he came up in conversation…..

The song I mentioned still holds up but I won’t be going to the gig that’s for damn sure.

he's playing Cairns next month, and like you, i paused and half considered going.

he's really fucking old though, and it's gonna be tough to pull off the "my missus is annoying so i am going to get hammered" schtick that sold all his records.

still love a good GT session though.

@Crucial Went to his concert about a year ago. Obviously he's getting up there. It was up-tempo though and not bad. Depends on what your expectations are? It's definitely an older crowd.

Was just thinking of this thread when “Get a haircut” came on the radio today.

Terrible song in the early 90s. Worse now.

Yeah it is and I almost feel bad for having a go at him.

The guy has a cool bluesy voice and some really nifty guitar licks…..

Then again “you talk too much” is just fucken cringy, shite and downright embarrassing.

I mean, look at this, even for the era this is just shithouse.

    Go.

Not seen him, but the place will have a bar (with bourbon scotch beer specials) be pretty chilled and I think the show will be really good.

It’s George Thorogood. What do you honestly have e to lose? I’ve not been let down once by musicians past their prime. Certainly won’t be near his peak (Axl …. ) but it’ll be so much fun.

@MiketheSnow the singer gets points for banging Winona Ryder but loses them again for those jeans.

@Nepia Just because all those songs are Joe Walsh songs sung by the Eagles. Just giving you a hard time. I’m pretty sure you could post some British or Kiwi music that I have no idea about just because we have grown up in different cultures. Enjoy the rugby.

I must have glossed over this originally as I didn't know you weren't/didn't grow up a Kiwi.

Anyway, I was coming on here to admonish you for not mentioning to me that Walsh was briefly a part of the the NZ reggae band Herbs. Which I only just learnt about via wiki.

This is an interesting article about how it came about and how Joe Walsh credits Hawkes Bay 😉 with helping him change his life away from drugs and alcohol: https://www.audioculture.co.nz/articles/rock-roll-rendezvous-herbs

@Tim Adrien Belew is credited on one song, but he played all the lead guitar on this, and some session musician played the drums.

Walsh sounds incoherent when he talks but I think that’s just a hang up from the drug days. Apparently he’s been sober for years

@Nepia Wow. That was really cool. That's funny about the connection with the reggae band.

If he ever does a concert out here in California I'm going to see it. Thanks for sharing.
