I know we have a GOM thread that gets plenty of action, but we should be in no doubt that the biggest curmudgeons on the Fern live right here, in the Movie thread.
What a bunch of pretentious gits most of you are.
There seems no harm in enjoying mindless zombie films, yet a big-screen visual spectacular is somehow beneath many of you.
Maybe take off your wannabe arty hats (berets probably?) for a second and appreciate something for what it is designed for.

A zombie who still has a mind would be terrifying I must say.
I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a pretentious Zombie movie though, can anyone recommend any ?

The Banshees of Inisherin: The latest movie from one of the McDonagh brothers. It was good, but I was a bit disappointed as it's been getting hyped so I expected a masterpiece.
I also saw the trailer by accident (breaking my no trailer rule) and it included all the funny stuff (which confirms my need for a no trailer rule).

I think we’re going next week, this review is devastating to read !
Hopefully you’re just really grumpy and it’s actually good ?

Did you even read what I wrote? I said it was good.
Maybe my post has helped lower your expectations and it will be a masterpiece for you.
And of course I'm really grumpy.

In classic fern tradition I think I just skimmed, took offence and then reacted.
Apologies old mate, I expect better from myself !

Yeah. Nah. I saw the first one at the flicks and I would agree that it was visually brilliant but for me it relied solely on that with little in the way of plot or character development (save that Sigourney Weaver got more and more annoying) and once you realise that the CGI is really the only thing worth watching you need this to be giving you constant Wow! moments. Which of course is difficult and self defeating.
It then becomes apparent that it was a really shallow film.

I've seen great CGI before. If it doesn't have a compelling plot, great acting, etc. why the fuck would I watch it?

The Bombardment
Danish movie on Netflix, previously known as The Shadow in My Eye. It t4ells the story of a real life bombing raid in WW2 called Operation Carthage designed to be a low level attack on Gestapo HQ in the old Shell Building. As a result of fuckups, two waves of bombers instead target a school. The raid caused 125 civilian deaths, including 86 schoolchildren and 18 adults at the school.

Watched The Death of Stalin last night. Superb cast doing justice to a well paced and written dark comedy. Will definitely watch this again.
I've watched this at least 10 times over the years and it's brilliant - one of my favourites from the last few decades.

With all due respect, compared to what Cameron served up in Avatar, no you haven't
And the water shit in this eclipses the Forest shit from the last.

Glass Onion
About as many layers as 2-ply toilet paper
If the money spent on it is correct then this could be the vanity project which brings Netflix down
Seen better performances and story in local an-dram farces
Effects were good though
2 gherkins out of 5 that’s shollot
Watched it last night and, yeah, the plot was a bit hackneyed and didn't think it one of the great mystery films, but enjoyed it and thought it great fun. Bit of a piss-take on Agatha Christie's And Then There Were None.

Starsky & Hutch
Very predictable movie, mainly as I've seen it about 20 times.
Still, got some legendary lines (DO IT) and the way they completely take the piss out of the 70's (the scenes, the dialogue, camera angles, hair styles etc) are always worth a laugh.
And Huggy Bear.
4 Huggies out of 5 Bears.

Great call!
I can’t think why I never thought of that before.
I saw a wicked action movie once, think it was ‘84. Super flick.
Really no need to see another is there?

Yeah maybe you have a point. There was some stuff back along with what was then cutting edge visuals but little in the way of plot and one dimensional characters but I still watch Tom & Jerry to this day.

Based on this
Yeah, nothing ground breaking from what Unreal Engine and sufficient resources hasn't been serving up.

I didn't really buy-in to the whole Avatar thing the first time around, so it's unlikely I'll watch the second.
I honestly don't remember being that blown away by the visuals or special effects either.
CGI just doesn't cut it for me. Still looks like a computer game. If I want beautiful visuals I'll watch BBC nature series in 4k.
