RIP 2023

@MN5 The reason I asked if you were taking the piss was that Beck and rockin Rod didn't collaborate, Rod was lead vocalist (and full time band member) for the JBG for the entirety of their first incarnation from early 67 - July 69. The classic Jeff Beck Group line-up of Beck, Stewart, Wood, Hopkins (and a drummer?) that recorded two albums, Truth and Beck-Ola both standout blues albums of the 60's.
Concert was fucking great - apart from Hi-Ho-Silver Lining which it seemed was all that half the audience had come to hear. Beck seemed way less interested in playing it than the old blues standards.

Yeah that song is pretty shite I have to say. Possibly the only one he ever sung on ?
Apologies, I should have said “joined forces for a lot longer” in my earlier post !

Listen to him elevate an otherwise forgettable song

I remembered Beato did a video on him that I didn't get around to watching.

I actually liked that song when it came out.
It’s like Roger Waters said to Dave Gilmour “Fuck you, I’ll get an even better guitarist to play with!”
I’m fairly sure his name was thrown about as a replacement for Syd Barrett back in the day. The Rolling Stones also tried to get him too.
He woulda worked in Floyd, certainly not in the Stones……

I’m wary of clogging up this thread too much but fuck me days he was a genius on the guitar. No two ways about it. The vid above explains it brilliantly.
….but was he “too” good ? Where was his rock anthem to do his amazing soloing on ?
I guess he left that to other favourites of mine like Blackmore, Page, Iommi, Gilmour etc. All slightly more “mortal” in their guitar slinging abilities…..but all of whom played to massive audiences he never really reached.
