    I used to work in Yorkshire. They take tea drinking seriously. There was a swatch of tea colour ranges that were acceptable - outside that was sent back to be remade. Awesome times... but they thought plunger coffee was super fancy.

    My experience of Yorkshire is they think anything south of J24 of the M1 is posh.

    I don’t mind the Nespresso thing. It’s convenient, and so easy to clean the machine. I’ve even managed to fine tune a half decent cortado ( only 2 a day).

    I tried using the reusable nespresso type capsules as well. Good idea in principle, but epic fail imo.

    I’ve had a couple of gaggia machines in the past. Produced a nice coffee but what a pain in the arse to clean and maintain, especially when the wife feigned ignorance and I ended up cleaning the machine each time.

    I have discovered Cold Brew coffee.

    We are in the 3-4 months a year here when it's warm enough to fancy an iced coffee in the morning and it's absolutely brilliant. Tried it out when acting all hipster in California and really enjoy it. It's basically coffee minus the harsh bitter edge (which I acknowledge a lot of people really like).

    Take 12-14 hours to make, whereby you basically brew it in a fridge. So I make 2 litres of it at a time. Serve it over ice 50/50 with milk and it's a cracking way to start the day.

    Worth a shot for those that haven't tried it.

    @MajorRage

    What equipment are you using?

    I have one of the three tiered towers but I forgot to use it this last summer.

    Just a basic Nataka one - only cost me 24 GBP.

    I did some research on it, and unless you are a true offciando you can't tell the difference. The coffee you use is infinitely more important than the kit.

    Personally I found it too mellow. Reminds me almost of hot chocolate, doesn't have the bite of hot coffee. I'm an aeropress guy

    @canefan you’re doing it completely wrong if it reminds you of hot chocolate.

    Maybe. Might have been the coffee. I bought a setup from Amazon. Just didn't have the astringency of hot brew

    Ok, you are doing it right then as that is what I really like about it. Doesn't have the bitter kick of coffee. It's considerably more mellow than a hot freshly barista'd masterpiece, but during the warmer months, that suits me fine.

    When we were in Dubai, I was drinking iced coffee's all the time and I don't think they quite tasted right. When they are cold brewed, then it works much better IMHO.

    If I crave an iced coffee I just make a Ca Phe Sua Da (Vietnamese iced). Don't need fancy equipment and its ready in an instant. Well a few minutes.

    @dogmeat

    Way too sweet for me. Not really the same species as what MR is talking about

    @Duluth
    Weirdly I don't like sweet foods at all but I can stomach this. I tone down the condensed milk and brew a dark coffee. Do get its a different beast but I don't have the patience for what MR is talking about. Instant gratification is the name of my game.

    and it's an infrequent pleasure

    I've got myself a cold brew drip system - you put coffee in the middle, ice/iced water above it and at a rate of about 1 drip per seconds takes 6-7 hours to make a pot of cold brew. Very tasty and the cold water filtration removes much of the acidity out of the flavor of the end product. That is my go to coffee drink in summer, as it lasts over a week in the fridge without losing any taste. Plus it makes my kitchen look like a meth lab...

    I just remembered that the reason I purchased a cold brew drip tower was this post

    The pic is a Yama, I got the cheaper Tiamo version. Always got good results from it

    @dogmeat yes snd no!

    Yes it’s slow but you don’t make it a cup at a time. I make 1.5l and when it’s down to about 2 cups I start the next one.

    I don't care for Nespresso, but this is quite interesting:

    I'll do a wider thread on some NZ observations after 4 years out, but I will say that NZ coffee was consistently excellent over my two weeks there. I can't think of a country which even comes close. Superb.

    @MajorRage yeah had a shocker in a cafe here in EB, which is bizarre as it's ridiculously popular (blame it on the French). But across the board absolutely top notch.

    Chocolate Dayz in Days Bay and The Hideout in Paihia top of the list so far.
