Good news. No, great news. No, fucking excellent news.

-
At least Foster won't be getting the reigns any time soon!
-

'Finishing what he started' is the theme and after taking the current regime through to a 52-3 (plus two draws) record, Hansen has the best stats of any All Blacks coach.

I'm waiting for Hansen to aknowledge us as a key source of info re: selections and game plans during his tenure.
-

Controversial, perhaps, but I'd argue for Steveo to be up there, if not on top. The Needle had a perfect record, but only over 3 years and 14 tests.

In his first year as Coach, Steve's ABs went unbeaten until their 14th game (although with a draw). Steve has had extended success, over 4 1/2 years. 3 losses in that time is, frankly, incredible and given the competition I think exceeds the short but brilliant coaching career of the Needle.

For the record, Allan's team played

Lions 4x at home

Australia 1x home and 2x away

England, Wales, France and Scotland away

France 3x at home

Yes, I know it is different eras, and you can't compete with perfect, but there is a reason that a lot of records exclude short term results.
-

Agreed. I can't believe he allowed the ABs to drop THAT many games!
-

16 years as an All Black coach is some unheard of shit. But nothing about this run has been normal. Good luck to him. If he can somehow maintain this level of excellence he'll go down as one of the greatest coaches in any sport ever.

It is - but, I don't think it trumps Fred Allen's 36 wins, one draw record (14-0 in tests).

NZZP - different eras, but I think you have to add in Fred's record in non-test matches - which were a lot more lose-able in those days.
-

I rmember when Henry was coach, a group of ferners were questioning Hansens involvement in the AB's and that he had no place there.

How times change and people can get better and learn. Poor ole knee-jerk just doesn't get used as often as he wishes.
-

i remember that! It's when we sucked wasn't it? And he was blamed because our lineout was an abortion, and a few other aspects of our forward play were pretty ordinary as well.

He's certainly learned a lot. :)

Around about the time he learned about contesting the throw on opposition lineouts he got a shitload better!!!!!
-

Obviously disappointing we weren't able to poach the best coach in the world currently Eddie Jones or the one before that Michael Cheika but I guess we will have to make do with Hansen, Smith, Cron, Fox and tolerate Foster.

Wonder what sort of horrible thing would have happened if he hadn't re-signed?

It's certainly scuppered Toddy's chances .....for now. :)
